I really like the stock Cessna pull switches. Except for an avionics master toggle, my 180 had all pull switches. I lucked into having a spare pull switch, so when I was reshuffling the panel it was substituted for the toggle. The knobs match those used for the glove box pull and the RH door lock.

Love the progress on this bird....

You are right! Paint would have been a cheap project compared to the engine. It will be a sleeper for sure with the ugly paint and the 520 under the hood.

I like the idea of a dissimilar switch for something as important as an avionics master. Good idea!

Been watching your work. That airplanes going to definitely have some attitude with that new powerplant. Paint is overrated. Fly the hell out of that thing and make it pretty later.

I got a set of those metal bushings when I bought my 180. Is that an STC'd mod, a service kit, standard Cessna seaplane parts, or ?? Plan on installing them one of these days but am wondering about paperwork requirements.

Re: Project. Straight tail 182. Pponk

oil transfer collar. The tolerance for this fit must be perfect.

Between you and TangoFox, I keep looking at the oil transfer collar. I see two screws that look like might be holding a shim on the right case half that holds the collar in place. Is that right and is that an adjustment? That whole deal looks mickey mouse compared to the one big bearing with a groove for getting the oil from the gov. to the prop hub like I have.

Its in the parts book for the 180. It is part of the seaplane kit. Log book entry. When you install them make sure the hat bushing is the proper length. If the skinny part is too long it can bottom out on the washer and not squeeze the firewall all the way. Does that make any sense? Apparently some bushings were a bit too long or some firewalls were a bit too skinny. I have not encountered this but have been told its an issue.

That little "shim" is actually a bumper. The collar pushes against that little steel plate rather then the aluminum case. What were they thinking? #-o

Closer yet! Started the beast up for the first time last weekend. Surprised me how fast it fired.

Got the whole panel rewired as well. Recovering my seats are about all that sits between me and sitting now.

Here is another super lame video from last year. This was actually my very last flight with the 470r. I can already tell the o 520 is going to really go. Anything more then 2300 rpm was dragging the locked up tires across the ramp. [emoji3]

Sounds like music to me. Congrats on the build and I can't wait to hear how it flies.

Re: Project. Straight tail 182. Pponk

Thanks Denali for the help and info! Thanks everyone for being interested and having such great advice.

Flew it Friday!!! Had to borrow a seat but holy cow what a rocket ship! I think I put an hour at the most on the thing so pretty hard to give any really accurate info.
First impression is it really climbs way steeper then before. I was climbing at 100mph and thought the deck angle was pretty darn steep. I was almost 2000 ft abeam the tower mid field downwind. [emoji2] It pulls very hard on takeoff. Will be great for soft fields and heavy. It's maybe 5-8kts faster at 23 squared. Really hard to tell as it was blowin mighty hard most of the short hop. I'm sure with a big prop the thing would climb even better but the 2k I spent on a 82" two blade sure beat 10k for anything else. Maybe some day....
Hopefully Sport aircraft seats out in Wasilla can get my seats done in the near future and this money fire can go out for the summer.

Re: Project. Straight tail 182. Pponk

Well the p-ponk motor is awesome. I still wish it had more power and burned less gas and weighed half as much but hey some day!!
I had Daniel at sportaircraftseats.com do my pilot seats. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work and the comfort. I shopped around a bunch but Daniel had patterns, material, and the time to bust them out on my procrastination schedule.

Got in some kinik flying.

New one piece Cea Bailey windshield. Probably should have put this thing in on day one.

Some more off airport work. Could use bigger tires on the beach.

Nice. Wish I had more time today. Would've loved to see this airplane in person. Would've also loved to venture to some local spots. You seem to have the scoop. Again, thanks for allowing me to stop by for at least a couple minutes.

Excellent job! I'm in the process of P-ponking the O-470K in my C180B and that's great info. You don't happen to know of a less expensive source for the seaplane engine mounts, do you? Yingling has the 0751004-1 bushing for $146.70 each, and I haven't found any less expensive.

Re: Project. Straight tail 182. Pponk

Brett- Thanks for stopping in my work the other day. Merrill field is a great little airport. Hope u can make it back up some day.

Jrc111- I looked for less expensive bushings. A few salvage yards were called with no luck. My neighbor had a new set and I had a fairly cheap quote to get some machined BUT in the end I just bought them.
Try googling dee at copper river Airmotive. He might have a used set. I don't know why I didn't call him.

Re: Project. Straight tail 182. Pponk

Finally got some bigger tires. I have only made a few landings but they are pretty cool so far. 29 with gar aero adapters. 10 psi seems high still.
Pretty heavy.
