Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

I have a stock landing/taxi light setup on my 172. That means two bulbs next to each other so a wig-wag setup is in-effective. I read that aeroleds makes a synchronizer two flash both lights together. Has anyone had any experience with led bulbs and how to pulse them together? I am ready to switch to Led and would like to use them for recognition more than night flight

After flying around with Stene, these are simply amazing. The reconginiton is leaps ahead of anything else available on the market.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

I've installed the predecessor to those on a few 180s and 185s with a pulse light module running between both wing tips and the original landing taxi lights.. great for visibility. I heard stene bought the stc from the previous company, which should speed up delivery.

I've seen people wire in an electronic turn signal relay for leds to make their lights blink. It Worked but it was nowhere as effective as the pulse lights, even the pulse lights that are right next to each other. No matter what any blinking light will make you more visible than no blinking light

I've heard the rumors, cool to finally see it! Hopefully I'll have a set for my 180 someday along with Sportsman STOL.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

I've heard that wig-wagging two lights right next to each other tend to produce what looks from a distance like one continuous light. I've got a simple flasher unit from Spruce wired to one of my side-by-side landing lights, it "wigs" at about 75 beats a minute. Installed an LED light and it's pretty effective, or so others tell me. Not as good as a wig-wag, I'm sure, but better than nothing or simply turning on the landing light.

A buddy of mine installed an STC'd wig-wag controller in his Pacer, it can be set to make the landing lights do everything but sit up and beg. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/e ... 37_stc.php
It's pretty bright when set to flash both lights together, and will be even more so when he gets LEDs. Other than having lights on both wings, this is probably the most effective way to go.

The OP was asking if you could sync two AeroLEDS together rather than 180 degrees out.

Yes you can and it is very easy. AeroLED has the schmatics on their website if you are interested, but you basically just hook up two wires and off you go... I use this on my bird but also have the RMD's with AeroLEDS, the left wing hits, then the right wing. Left: Wingtip and orig landing/taxi, Right: Wingtip.

The setup is very effective for recognition.

RE: Willie's new Quasar tips... I got mine last week. (RMD's for sale BTW) and am installing them on the 180, and then two more sets on customers 185's. They are pretty damn cool and are orders of magnitude brighter than existing PMA'd lights. I will report after Im finished.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

I'm about to order the Aeroled Pulsar NS Navigation, Suntail, Sunbeacon Red, and Sunspot 36HX/36LX landing and
taxi light for our 1975 Cessna 182P. Question......can I use the original Cessna wiring (to wings and tail) or should I
replace all with new shielded wiring which would require considerable more labor?? I understand some just use the
original.
Thanks,
Larry

I have had the pulse lights on my 182 for a year now and really endorse them. No one lives in south prairie.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

Im mainly interested in my options for my existing landing lights. The only way I would do wingtips is if I found a screamin deal on some rmd tips for the horton leading edge.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

Checkout the Max Pulse. It has an stc. It can wig wag, flash both lights at the same time and quite a few other options with the twist of a knob.

Re: Pulse lights on factory cessna wing?

I have the same wing that you have, Jered, with the landing and taxi lights next to each other. I have a Precise Flight Pulselite module wired to flash both lights simultaneously--alternating them would give the appearance of only one light on constantly. I have not seen my airplane flying, so I can only say that others have told me that it's very effective. I'm flashing HID lights, which some say are brighter than LEDs. All I can say is that they're many times brighter than stock incandescent lights.

Since your airplane is only a year older than mine, I suspect I have the same single panel switch for the landing/taxi lights that you have, a pull switch where the first notch turns on the taxi light and the second notch turns on both lights. The Pulselite module requires an additional switch (I had my IA use a lighted switch so that I could know if the Pulselite module was turned on). Because the HIDs have power supplies which need to be warmed up a few seconds before being pulsed, my practice is to turn on both the landing/taxi lights by pulling the stock switch and also flip the Pulselite switch "on" as I leave the run-up pad. When I arrive at the hold short line, then I turn "off" the stock switch, so that both lights start pulsing. When coming in to land during the day, I turn on the stock switch and the Pulselite switch, count to 10, then turn off the stock switch.

A peculiar anomaly that my IA was unable to figure out is that at night, I'll have the lights pulsing until I turn base, when I pull the stock switch to "on" to light them continuously for landing. When I pull off the runway and push the stock switch to the "taxi" position, the landing light goes off, but then the taxi light starts pulsing again--have to turn off the Pulselite switch for it to be on continuously for taxiing. He put in an enormous amount of time (at his expense--he only charged me for a couple hours to install the module and switch) trying to figure out an alternate wiring method. When he told me about it, I told him not to worry about it--it's no big deal to me.
