CFOT wrote:+1 for staying in Bandon. We go over there a couple times a year and rent this cool little house on the beach. Runs about $100 a night and has great beach access and within walking distance to Tony's Crab Shack and only a few miles from the airport. I also like Floras Lake and Cape Blanco. Floras Lake is a blast if you are into windsurfing/ kite boarding...but also cool to just paddle around or cross the sandbar over to the beach. Brookings is a little busier, but lots of really nice beaches nearby. Take the time to explore as you drive down the coast from Bandon to Brookings. You will find lots of really cool places along the way.

Thanks for the advice. We are leaving a few days unplanned to see where we end up each day on the coast. Do you have info on this beach house? Contact number or website?

We will be passing through grants pass, But unsure if we will be staying the night yet. If we do it will be on our way down. My aunt lives there and we may stop to see her. Will call if we do stay.

Take care,

Re: Roadtrip to Portland - Advice and meet some BCP members?

Hello All,

Wow this site never ceases to amaze me. Zane you really built an amazing group of people that are so gracious. I received an overwhelming response on here as well as various PM's. I wish this was a road trip for myself as I would take each person up on their offer and turn it into a meet and greet road trip. However, I will likely only have a few options to fly. It looks like Bend, Portland and Bandon have good opportunities that I can make work. Thanks again everyone for being so gracious and hope that I can one day return the favor. Only way I can see now is, if anyone ever has the need to use one of my mounts to film a special flight but does not see themselves as the type to own one of my mounts and camera setup, do still contact me. I loan them out all the time for people traveling. Sometimes ready to go with a camera. So if you have some special fly in and want to get some footage reach out to me via email from my website. I just received a loaner back from a visiting pilot from Switzerland who was here for some back country lessons in Idaho.

Thanks again everyone,

Best regards,

Marc Webster

Hello all,

We are on the road. We had a great time visiting lassen volcanic park and are currently on our way to Oregon caves. We had a bit of a hiccup near Shasta when our Yakima roof box opened up on the freeway which was a pain. Part of the journey I guess.

Re: Roadtrip to Portland - Advice and meet some BCP members?

Hello All,

I was able to meet up with Kelly (1:1 scale) in Bend today for a flight in his Maule M4. Kelly was so gracious in picking me up in Bend and showing me the local sights. I really enjoyed my first Maule flight and it opened my eyes to what a real backcountry airplane can do. So not the Cessna 172 I'm use to renting.

Also loved Bend. It's my dream city with all the outdoor sports I love and a local airport with sailplanes as well. If we were to move here my wife would never see me.
