Rotax 912 ULSx2

I am pretty close to buying an AIrcam to build some multi hours. I know, they are expensive for what they are, but they are really cheap to fly and reasonably saleable. An "real" twin can be had much cheaper, but who knows if I could sell it reasonably quickly after I put the 60 to 80 hours on it. Running car gas at around $3 with 7 gallons an hour or so makes the flying pretty cheap. I have a few hours in one, recently did my multi sea in one. Pretty fun little toy.

One I am looking at has about 1000 hours on the engines, has not had a gearbox inspection, and all engine rubber parts minus fuel lines are about 10 years old. Another one has 1300hours, has had the gearbox inspection, but appears to also have old rubber parts.

Any Rotax users on here have thoughts on rubber parts, engine hours, gearbox inspection, or ???

The plan is to fly it from the mid south to Arizona, meet up with a few friends there, do some flying in the desert and then put it up for sale.

Only have like 5hrs behind a rotax

I’d ask on a RV forum, seems a good bit of that fleet runs em

Or maybe a LSA or aircam forum if there is one?

Re: Rotax 912 ULSx2

I found the information I needed. I also made a deal on one, money gets wired tomorrow. I will be picking it up near Palm Beach Florida on the 13th, flying to Arizona with a stop in Houston to see a friend and another stop in San Antonio to see my Dad. Hoping to find some grass strips or desert backcountry along the way. Taking a sleeping bag and pad. Low and slow all the way, should be a cool trip. I might even find the time to post photos along the way.

The plane I bought is open cockpit front, enclosure for the rear seat. It has big bore kits for 115hp per side with engines that have 625hrs total time. Plane is fully up to date on maintenance, the other ones I looked at log books of were not.

If anyone is along that route and wants to meet up, or has suggestions for places to check out, please let me know.

The 180 Club used to fly in to Terlingua and Luke(Skalywag) who used to post here with his 180/182 conversion is in the Big Bend area. Your new plane would be fun in that area.

Did some more research on Big Bend area. Look up Rawl's Ranch airport.
