Re: Route KONP-PAKT (With help from viewers like you)

Garmin Blue Chart software looks like a fabulous supplementary tool for navigating the British Columbia water ways in an amphibian aircraft. Blue Chart gives a pretty good look at the surface navigation aids (some ATONs* are listed in the base map of Garmin Pilot too), water depths, water temp, current direction(s), tide heights, waves heights/periods and some weather buoy info.

*ATONs = Aid To Navigation http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navigational_aid

The brown line seen on the below chart (JPG) is a proposed flight leg from Bella Bella, BC to,Terrance. The information depicted hopefully will help me "pilot" the aircraft in this remote area? Also, have VNC, and Enroute charts with same course for primary air nav too.

Re: Route KONP-PAKT (With help from viewers like you)

I'm also planning a trip (amphib) from Vancouver to PAKT, planning to visit some of the lakes with Forest Service Cabins especially the hot springs at Baranof. FYI Bella Bella (Campbell Island) has notam - no 100LL until approximately June 6th 19:00. Fuel at dock at Denny Island confirmed - $2.19/liter. In case you don't have a Water Aerodrome Supplement fuel at the dock at Prince Rupert(Seal Cove) is listed - I'm waiting for confirmation but no notam. If weather allows - we'll go Vancouver -Bella Bella- perhaps stop at Port Hardy to assess weather before going further, then Bella Bella direct PAKT (about 230nm).

This guy http://www.publiclakecabinsak.com/home seems to recommend Shearwater over Bella Bella. Gas and better accomodations and things to do if waiting out wx.

Looks fun. Should be here now, the WX in SE AK has been awesome the last 3 weeks. I imagine the BC coast has been nice too.

Only thing I might add is the route in and out of Terrace can get pretty choked up with low weather. Don't be surprised if you have to bypass that section, depending of course on the conditions.

Have fun, be safe. Is Ketchikan the end of the line?

I have been very jealous of your weather up there! There are several "Plan B" if weather gets bad too. This is a big trip for me and I am going low and slow. My theory is, do not push the weather! Thank you for the guidance.

Looks like due to budget cut backs and down sizing PAKT is the end of the line for Summer. Will 180 and head back to Oregon.

Thank you Pierre. I have called Shearwater and they have room. But, it's filling up fast this season!

I use Garmin Blue Water for ocean tidal current/height/direction predictions. It's a real bargain at $35/Year.

IPAD supported.

Re: Route KONP-PAKT (With help from viewers like you)

Thanks for the tip. Heading down to key west for a fly fishing trip in a week - need something to help us plan and navigate the flats in a rented skiff - this looks perfect.

Re: Route KONP-PAKT (With help from viewers like you)

I bought Garmin Blue Water Charts for Hawaii on the iPAD. Then I found that the subscription covered North America. It has been a great resource in Oregon too. Even has some lakes and rivers included.

The touch screen is very similar to Garmin Pilot so it was not a big deal whipping up a route.

Should work fine in Florida. Have a great trip. Watch out for swordfish!
