Scott 3200 Tailwheel Disassembly
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
Does anyone know how to get this pin out of the 3200 to change the broken spring? The copper bushing on the inside of the bore prevents access to the other side of the pin...you can't drive it through. If there's a way to get the bushing out without ruining it, I haven't figured it out.
It just doesn't seem like it should be that difficult...but damn if I can figure it out.

It is necessary to push the bushing out then drive the pin into the bore. I made a two part puller to press the bushing out with a long bolt, a couple of sockets will probably work, just easy for me to make one on the lathe. The same puller is used to push the bushing back in.

So...do the pieces below the copper bushing (closer to the tire) just press out of the cast fork assembly as well?

Press the brass bushing out first. The pin then goes through.

Press the bushing down towards the fork in a good vise with a socket. It took adding some pipe to the vise handle to get enough leverage to do mine. Only press the bushing down enough to expose the pin. Check out the Steve Pierce videos on YouTube too about the Scott tail wheel, really informative.

Hammer
Small tip for re-assy. Freeze the bushing and the pin.
Used to do it a lot on Dana transfer case repairs and 4:1 conversions. Used dry ice block for bearing races.
Don't know if it is an FAA approved method - someone here is bound to know.
Lots of you tube stuff on the 3200 but not sure if any specifically address the bushing.
Be careful with the hammer
