Seaplane Rating Begins!
Information and discussion about seaplanes, float planes, and water operations.
As I'm absolutely planning for a life on the water in my Bearhawk project (when it isn't frozen solid, of course). My wife bought me an early birthday present today of my first seaplane lesson! 1.3 hours in a Citabria 150 on straight floats. What an amazing experience!

Now I have to decide whether or not my Maule is worthy of an upgrade.

Oh Chris, you poor guy, this is an addiction you will NEVER be able to kick no matter how many meetings you attend. But then again, why would anyone want to kick such an addiction?
Have fun and enjoy!

I'm in the first step: Denial.
I don't have a problem. Seaplanes will not take over my life...

Seaplanes are hazardous to your fiscal health.
Sept 2015: I'm a first-time small-plane passenger on a seaplane ride (with nothing planned beyond that).
Sept 2016: ASEL & ASES & seaplane owner.
Slippery slope.

Glad you're getting hooked. I need to go fly one again since it's been almost a year.

I got my SES 3 years ago--need to go do it again. Honestly I have never had more fun in an airplane than I did in that training. It combines my two great recreational loves, flying and boating. All it takes is money (lots of it)!

Float flying is the absolute best. Nothing opens up more options for off-airport exploration. I wish we had more water here in Oregon, and fewer assholes who try to get them banned from the lakes we do have.

Appreciate what you do have. So far, the Colorado Seaplane Initiative has succeeded, due to the hard, hard work of the district representative of the Seaplane Pilots Association, in getting only 2 reservoirs opened to seaplanes--which leaves a whole lot of Colorado water unavailable as yet.

Once hooked, forever broke.
We got SES 11 years ago and MES 7 years ago in California.
Very few places to float fly in this state unless you live on the Sac River Delta
It is very addictive and we try hard to get recurrent at least yearly.
I still look for a third plane...crazy I know, but it would be amphibious!
