Searey Aircraft is now a BCP sponsor

Please join me in welcoming our newest advertising partner, Searey Aircraft!

If you're not familiar with the Searey, it is a LSA amphibious flying boat/taildragger that is offered as a complete SLSA or as a kit, generally powered by the Rotax 912/914/915 4-stroke variants. You should be seeing the new banner ads appearing on pages.

The design is very refined, as it's been around for a number of years, and the community of pilots and builders is very established. Kevin Oaks, the Searey marketing head is a BCP member and flies floats down in Florida near the Searey headquarters. Feel free to ask him questions here in this thread, by private message, or by email: kevin.oaks[at]searey.com

I am very excited about this new relationship, and hopefully will be heading to Florida to capture an adventure in a Searey later this year. The Searey seems to me to be a super versatile option for exploring land as well as water, and the taildragger configuration appeals to me more than amphibious floats.

Cool vid from Paul Bertorelli of AvWeb.com flying the new 915/MT powered Searey with designer Kerry Richter:

This fellow named Don Maxwell on Youtube has a ton of great Searey flying videos, many of operating on wheels:

I saw that. I helped work on one with a Rotax 914 on it. Nice airplane.

Sweet looking rides for sure! Too bad they won't let us land on water here in CO!

Great to see this collaboration!

We're building a Searey and hoping to have it flying in the next year.

They are great airplanes for all sorts of fun off-field adventures.

Hey, that is really cool! I'd love to chat about your build if you are willing to share.

Yes indeed! Welcome, I’ve been very interested in a Searey since reading “The Voyage of the Southern Sun”. Very impressive aircraft. Plus water flying is my favorite type of flying!

The effort to allow seaplanes on Colorado waters is moving slowly forward. The anti-seaplane stance of the Department of Wildlife, which effectively controls state waterways, is slowly eroding. Ray Hawkins, who has honchoed the effort on behalf of the Seaplane Pilots Association, has done masterful work, chipping away at DOW and the legislature.

We have two places to land seaplanes now, Lake Meredith near Ordway (which now appears on sectionals as a seaplane base) and Kenney Reservoir near Rangely. The next splash ins are on June 2 at Lake Meredith and July 14th at Kenney. There will be shuttles at La Junta and Rangely for land plane pilots/passengers to get from the airports to the splash in sites.

I haven't attended the splash in at Rangely, but I've been to both at Lake Meredith, and they've been fun. I've tented using my pickup. This year, I'll drive my new motorhome. The camping is free.

Re: Searey Aircraft is now a BCP sponsor

The Searey is a great amphib, and they have a good (small) community following on their own website as well, but sadly that group is very possessive of information, and unlike here, they don't share well.

A good friend of mine has a LSX, and another pilot picked one up last fall, both in upstate NY. I shot a little video in the LSX a few years back, while we were out having fun. Since then he's added some graphics..
