Sideband splatter has me grounded.

Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

NASA talked to the moon on less power.

Idk, first reason that comes to mind is if I ever wreck my airplane and am trying to reach an airliner on 121.5 [emoji6] Seems like more power couldn’t hurt.

BTW, I enjoyed your presentation today MTV. Wish I’d had the chance to introduce myself.

Anyways, we’ve updated the firmware and everything seems to be working good. I’m not sure it was a radio issue, seems more likely it was a setup/user issue and that the firmware update has some setup options that make it easer to get things set properly.

I would play with mic gain and test with a handheld near by.

If I get time I can try the same with my MGL and handheld. But I don’t remember having any issues.

What plane is this in?

I talked to Matt, he was helpful. Seems MGL has great customer service.

This is the new MGL V16 radio installed in my recently completed Bearhawk.

Dang!! Sorry I missed meeting you!! I was hoping to meet you here in I Falls.

Glad you got your radio issue sorted out. That kind of stuff can be REALLY frustrating. And, seems like all the radio shops are busier than busy these days.

Re: Sideband splatter has me grounded.

The trouble with radio issues is sorting out the actual problem from the perceived problem. We've all had them, if we've flown longer than it took to get our private certificate.

The last major problem I had was an intermittent failure to transmit any real distance, and this problem persisted over a couple year period. I had relatively recently had the 430W installed along with a new PS Engineering 6000B audio panel, so that had to be checked. My antennas were OEM 1962 el cheapos that Cessna probably had laying around since they started building airplanes with radios, so those were changed out for good antennas, to the tune of about $250 apiece for the antennas alone. Still the problem persisted, intermittently. Sometimes my transmissions were crystal clear, sometimes really poor.

Turned out to be a loose microphone jack on the passenger side! All that work and expense, and all it took was tightening the nut around the jack to finally solve the problem. But at least I ended up with all the new installation wiring rechecked and new antennas that I should have had installed years ago, so it wasn't a waste.

Glad yours seems to be resolved, Whee.
