SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

A low pressure weather system at latitude 38 is heading for California. The ocean seas in the vicinity of the low are reaching about 35 feet. It will be interesting to see the effect on the Mainland in a few days...

Re: SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

Well, here at latitude 38 on the left coast we could use some rain... 8 inches last year vs. normal of 30+ inches. Not that I'm complaining too hard about 70 degrees and sunny day after day :)

Re: SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

California could use more rain! Hope this low can produce some precip for you guys.

The winter temperatures on the US West coast are warm! It was 45F during most of this July in Newport City Oregon and today it was 49F! The Pineapple Express rears it's head again.

I'm watching the news right now and they said it was a high of 61 in Newport today!

Re: SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

I k ow up here in Alberta retail the weather is ridiculous. 100km/hr winds the other day knocked down 50 poles on our main power lines, leaving thousands with no power. Thankfully it was 5*C so didnt get to cold. Today it was 9*C. The roads are so icy from the warm weather that school has been cancelled all week. Dont get me wrong, the warm is nice, but it has me worried that the -40 we usually have at this time of year is gonna come and last all of February...
On the bright side, the waist deep snow has settled to knee deep hard pack, so ski flying will once again be possible! Hoping the winds stay somewhat calm tomorrow!

Thank you for your progress report. I would love to be there and get away from the heat here in Honolulu. I do not know how long I could handle minus 40. I am guess clothing and shelter are very serious options up there! Here, shorts and sandals are worn all year.

Has "El Nino" returned? I am not sure but, the ocean water, which affects our weather on the mainland, is relatively warm.

We had 1 or 2 good snows in December but it's all gone now.

Re: SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

As much as I've been enjoying the weather, we do need the rain. High of 69 here today, and 70 forecast for tomorrow. January? Really?

We can send you all the moisture you need. Record rainfall, plentiful early snow, and windy as hell too. The sponge is officially full here.

You guys really have a contrast in Weather! Alaska, California, Arizona ...

Yesterday in Hawaii the waves were pretty big (from aforementioned low pressure) on the North Shores. I took my boat out on the South Shore and it was dead calm.

Pictures from local news...

Do you surf in Newport at all? Agate and Otter can be pretty nice... I have a wet suit, a board, and enough balls to paddle out and make a fool of my self

Oh yeah and another weather update for you... I was rock climbing about 8 miles north of McKenzie Bridge Airstrip today at about 3400' in the Cascades, most of the day was spent shirtless in shorts "getting my tan on". Juneuary?

I surf the Yaquina jetty and South Beach but, only when small. Using a 5mm wetsuit. I surf to have fun only! Let's go out if you are in town.

Take me climbing in the Cascades! The only place I go is Smith Rock and the camping there is terrible!

Should be at the hangar Friday to start my Scout.

Re: SIGMET EASTERN PACIFIC

The Pacific High is kicking the crap out of that low pressure trough. The conventional wisdom has it that it will hold at least through the end of the month. Having said that, the last December snow in my backyard bit the dust yesterday morning. It's been cold here.

Interesting pattern. Looks like California will miss the weather from the low? Though, surf will make the beaches.

South Beach scares me because that is where all the sharks hang out   those damn river mouths! But I can put those fears aside to hang-ten for a while.

Lots more than just Smith Rock; http://www.oregonchoss.com

If you do ever want to go to Smith I have a house near Sisters, sure beats camping :D
