Site slowness and errors

We've been getting absolutely hammered the last couple days. Much of it is search engine crawlers like Google. I'm not sure why the sudden spike in crawler traffic, but I am working to mitigate. It is temporary. Thanks for your patience.

Re: Site slowness and errors

FWIW the last couple days when BCP comes up (I stay logged in all the time),
a page comes up that says BCP is checking my browser.
Seems like that's something new.
Is it checking me for malware, to make sure I'm not a crawler, or ??

It's a temporary "interstitial" page that helps protect against being flooded by bots. I'll prob disable it later today.

Re: Site slowness and errors

The site is pretty slow right now. It's taking 20-30 seconds for each page to load. Only thing missing is the phone modem audio sounds to make the effect complete.

Re: Site slowness and errors

Yea, it's better now. The issue is that google launches it's crawler/indexer thing towards the site and sends a few thousand requests which is more than the server can handle all at once.

There is already a new server in the works, but this stuff takes time. The site is fairly complex and we don't want any downtime so it takes a bit of engineering and testing to get things updated.

Thanks for being patient!
