Skywagon Wheel Parts

Went to the hangar today and discovered a flat tire. The mechanic says there's a crack in the wheel and a missing dog, meaning it needs to be replaced. Cessna wheels are what you'd predict: rare and expensive. People who shy away from Bonanzas because of "the high price of Beech parts" are uninformed.

What alternatives to I have? I mean, besides driving on next week's vacation which, unfortunately, has become necessary.

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

I called Airframes Alaska, who said their wheels will work with Cleveland brakes but not whatever brakes are used with the McCauley wheels. That makes it a $3800 job plus labor. I hope it doesn't come to that.

$3800? The wheel and brake kit is $2261 plus shipping. This is for the 6 bolt wheels. 3 bolt wheels are a bit cheaper. Or are your tires shot and needing to be replaced as well? Labor shouldn't be much. It's a very straight forward install.

Yes, and at that price point, shipping is free. Just order a new set of wheels from Airfames and get rid of that McCauly stuff.

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

I got a set of McCauley wheels that I just removed from my 180 - the brakes have pitting but sounds like you just need the wheels.

The 3-holes are just shy of $1900 each. Is there a $600 reason to prefer the 6-hole?

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

And a follow up question: is it possible to use Cleveland wheels with the stock McCauley brakes?

If I have to buy a whole kit, I think I’ll just go ABI, since it’s cheaper that Cleveland and I know it’ll be compatible with the Bushwheels I might get when I’m recovered from this little adventure.

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

Not compatible with McCauley Brakes. Cleared direct to buy the whole kit.

Don’t miss the offer of used wheels posted above though if that’s more palatable.

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

Yes I did on my 180 k use McCauley brakes on Cleveland wheels with right discs when my wheels were cracked. Then replaced with new style McCauley wheels with through bolts same McCauley brakes.i like the McCauley calipers.

Re: Skywagon Wheel Parts

I’ve got a set of used Cleveland brakes I’d be happy to get rid of if it helps. Image

Already sold the wheels.
