Snider Speed Kit

Just finished putting a Snider Speed Kit on the 1955 180. Thought I would post some pictures. I haven't seen anyone else with these on a thread so I hope its ok with Zzz. From what I can tell it added about 8 knots.

The speed kit is one thing, but that has got to be one of the SWEETEST looking 180's out there! =D>

Re: Snider Speed Kit

That IS a sweet lookin 180 puller!! What part of Texas did she come from?
My 55 had the snider and wheel pants when I got her but I went the other route.
Snider and pants off, 6" bubbles, 88" prop, 29's.
All things that slow her down. But I'm not in a hurry. Can't say how much real speed I lost because I also went to a fresh motor at the same time. But overall I lost about 10mph.
Gonna try and post a couple before and after pics. Be the first time if I succeed. Trying this tapatalk app.
You got me high tech now zzz. Haha.
Bringing her home. Skalywag took this pic.

Only 8 knots? Just kidding. Those look like they came out of the Monocoupe factory.

Its there on the vertical... hard to see but its there. 3" numbers are the best kind and those of us with the older birds can use them because they are "antique".

Big tail numbers are obnoxious. There is no need to advertise your identity to anyone on the ground. I prefer the 3" variety as well.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

Hey guys check the FAA website on N numbers, antique aircraft only have to have 2" N numbers. 3" is for Experimental category. The smaller the better IMO, just wanna make sure all u legal eagle's know the law

Re: Snider Speed Kit

And it helps if you place the numbers just above the horizontal stab, it makes it all but impossible to see from the ground. Perfect!

That's what we did on my Dad's 120.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

You guys down there are lucky. Up in Canada its either 12" high on the side, or small on the side and big on the underside of the wing. Hard to be sneaky. Luckily, the planes color and registration color makes it hard to see at flying speed, or so I've been told.

That photo was taken 9 years ago, I was an 18 year old kid having fun with Dad's airplane :D It actually wasn't too bad, that was a fairly smooth bar and the rocks weren't that big, but I wouldn't land on anything bigger with 8.00s.

Thanks! She came from Fort Worth. Hicks field T67. Yeah I had my doubts, but after a '75 GCBC this girl was fast...so naturally, we wanted more. You're right she does look happier! Cant beat what you have there in my opinion. Very nice.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

EZ. What's an N number? Should I have one..? Sounds really cool.

Puller. I know what ya mean man. Mine was pretty dang fast with it the way it was. But she's gotta be my super cub to a 206. More leanin toward the super cub as much as possible. :D
Alright everyone, don't start the it'll never be a super cub thing. I know. Believe I know. But it's the best of all worlds since I can only have one bird. Don't wanna start another battle but I've looked every way from Sunday and can't find a bird that'll do everything as well as a 180. You'll love that thing puller. Congrats again on a beautiful bird. Be sure and post more pics if you do anything else to her.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

Wow. Thanks everybody for the compliments! That means a lot coming from people who are always looking at these planes. The best part is that the interior is a 10 in my opinion. We really hit a home run when we bought it.
As far as the N numbers go, YES I do love the small ones. Besides all the other good things about them by far the best thing is that they don't take away from the lines of the aircraft. I mean you don't paint your license plate number on the fin of a '57 Chevy, and you don't paint your hull number down the best lines of your sloop, so why the hell would you want to paint one on your '55 180?

Re: Snider Speed Kit

The guy I bought my airplane from put on 12" numbers...not only that, he painted them on so I can't even heat-n-peal them off. Ugh!
(note to self: don't ever do that)
