Snider Speed Kit

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: Snider Speed Kit

I do like the look of the speed kit, and it really compliments your aircraft nicely. I didn't get quite 8 Kt on mine, but it bumped it up a bit, actually it has made the 185 slow down a lot slower, kind of a bit more slippery. The only thing I don't like about the kit is jacking the airplane with it, kind of a pain. If you have found a clever way, I'd love to hear about it. I am putting a lifting rig in my hanger to pick from the float hoist points and use my spreader rig to lift the entire plane, rather than jack it.

BTW, if anyone needs the plans to make a seaplane spreader for 180/185 I'd be happy to share my plans.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

I put one on my 180 years ago before I sold it. Didn't get 8 knots out of it but I did crack the hell out of the kit on Soldier Bar. I prefer the more modest look of my 185 now.

Re: Snider Speed Kit

Anyone have experience running the Snider kit with anything larger than 8.50x6? I'm about to install 8.50x10s on 10" wheel - I talked to the folks at Snider and they said no problem, just remove the brake fairings and keep the leg fairings.

No doubt someone will ask why run the Snider with larger tires - they seem contradictory in purpose. But the kit is already on there and I figure why remove it if I don't have to.

And what about the jacking question? With a larger wheel/tire is there enough clearance to pull the wire out of the leg fairing so you can remove it and jack on the leg? I have lifting rings but they don't help without access to a hoist.
