Snow on Reno/Sparks

Probably not many interested in this but here goes anyway.

I've got a foot, measured, of brand new snow deposited in my yard over-night. Elevation here is about 4600' MSL. It's still snowing. Rain due this afternoon, then freezing temps overnight tonight.

This is the biggest single storm dump I've seen in the ten years I've been around here. March 28th.......

The weather guessers are calling this a slider because all the forcing is coming down from the North rather than from a Southwesterly flow. The terrain is generally shorter to the North of us.

How are you PNWsters doing?

Re: Snow on Reno/Sparks

Easter Sunday was supposed to be stormy, and I guess it was in Seattle, but here in PT not so much. It did get blustery outa the west though. TV weather people have said this was the wettest winter on record. Lots of snowpack so not much concern over water shortage for this summer. I still managed to get in a fair amount of local flying.

Re: Snow on Reno/Sparks

I'm based at the same airport as Hotrod 180, but I flew significantly less in the first couple of months of 2016 than I did over the same period in 2015. Some weather was flyable, but it wasn't enticing. Wet, gray skies feel colder and less inviting than blue skies with some warmth from the sun. We also got a LOT more snow in the mountains than we did in 2015. Mount Baker is reporting a total of 571" of snow as of 3/16/16 compared to a total of 287" for all of the 2014-2015 season. The passes over the Cascades still have lots of snow and occasional dumps of new white stuff, although that is on the decline now. The latest report for Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics shows 107" of snow there. I like to have lots of snow nearby, but none that I have to deal with at my house. We didn't get any snow accumulation in Port Townsend this winter, and that is fine with me. The rest of this week is supposed to be spectacularly nice and clear weather, so I'll get airborne again.

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

Nevada is in the process of harvesting as many top quality Kalifornia ex-pats as we can. We're going after the water next....

Re: Snow on Reno/Sparks

How's that global warming workin' out for ya, '701 ? I'll be thinking of you harvesting our CA ex-pats and our water with a smile, as we walk around here in SoCal wearing T-shirts and shorts.

To be as helpful as possible, we'd like to suggest some prime candidates for your CA-NV transplant program. They'll even bring their own Falafel and Hummus restaurant businesses with them, their own 30 year old MBZ diesels with black smoke billowing out the tailpipe and white smoke billowing out the windows, and a couple of thousand revoked used car dealership licenses

Kidding aside, hope the 701 project is coming along well...

Mild winter in SW Michigan this year. Lots of rain last night! Been windy, I think tomorrow is the only good flyable day for the foreseeable future. I think I will pull the Husky out for a breakfast flight. :D
