I was thinking that same thing. Really awesome that he did it and shared the pics but I hope people don't get the "if he can then I can" attitude. I was planing on going to Soldier on Friday but may change locations if there are crews there recovering airplanes.

I flew Bryan to Mile Hi last weekend because he had "never been there". We got out and he ran down the runway, started looking at the approach, touchdown, etc. I told him - Don't do it. But...I think he could.

Don't do it Bryan. We know you can!

Thats why i asked. Its really more of an approach/uphill landing skill strip than a max preformace strip. With all the uphill getting stopped is not really the issue... if you touch down in the right spot.

On a side note, thinking about a Mooney at soilder bar vs say a Husky at Johnson Creek. It just reminded me again how people often over estimate the value of having "just the right plane/equipment" and underestimate the most important component "having the right pilot at the controls"

Thinking along those lines i guess thats true of most things. Give me the best golf clubs money can buy and tiger woods still has nothing to worry about :)

5152 posts for you. When have you been silent. And as if the feds do not already know. Give me lessons on how to pile up a plane and keep the feds out. AS IF.

Just ding one and it seems like there are some folks that have to race to see who can be first to call FAA and NTSB regardless of the need.

I hope that anyone who looks at this pic and sees a Mooney there will still give the airfield the respect it deserves... [-X

Bryan...Respect

I want to know how much all that retractable gear is going to cost when it is finally beat to death on them rough strips. Bryan is a awesome pilot but that gear will wear out and that's gunna smart.

Cheers...Rob

It will probably cost him all of the $$$ he's save on fuel over the years flying that Mooney vs. your Maule and end up a wash in the end.

Re: Solder Bar plane crashes

Well I figure it'll cost that Dam Mooney driver what it cost to replace the donuts on his airplane...which need to be replaced every ohhh 8-10 years! At least the way I fly! So $800-1000 of rubber, cheaper than bush wheels! Fuel leaks are normal for Mooneys even if you go to nice airstrips so that's not counted. That gear is tough and that's why I went with a Mooney!! Also I burn 7.5 @ 140kts.....And I know the Maules are burning around 10-14 (Jeremy was burning 14-16) So It'd take a lot to save as much as I do! 8)
