The PS intercomm has seperate volume controls for the front and back seats as well, and as BM pointed out PS controls the volume of the input device through the intercomm volume controls. Unfortunately with mine it's all of the volumes, you can't split out the radio, intercomm and music seperately.
The software on Media player on my 4705 has an equalizer and "preamp" that will really boost the volume, so maybe that is why it works even if it's impedance mis-matched?
