Stehekin 6S9 PIREPs?

Hi all,

New to the forum. Normally fly around Idaho (and other places) with an RV-7. Planning a trip to Stehekin this weekend to meetup with another pilot friend. Anyone here flown in with an RV before? Any PIREPs on the rw surface condition? Rocks/gopher holes/etc?

Thanks!

I have been there twice this summer. Typical backcountry strip. Some loose gravel and a few rocks , but huge in size. Your RV can handle it with ease.

Been there the last two weekends, its not bad , some loose gravel and smaller rocks ,as Moss farmer just posted.
Watch for deer, saw a couple crossing the strip in front of a Cessna 180 just prior to their take off.

She made it! And, there was no kidding half a deer on the runway when I landed.

I saw a black bear right near the strip once when I was over there.
That "half order" might make for a good opportunity to see one.

Any recent Stehekin pireps with regard to smoke? AQI says “good” but I find that hard to believe given the close proximity to the fires. Thanks!

Re: Stehekin 6S9 PIREPs?

Ben, one of my hangar neighbors was over there two different times a few weeks ago, and said it was fine- little to no smoke.
The TFR NE of Stehekin hasn't gotten any closer since then,
and the one down the lake seemed to have maybe receded a bit.
Seems like the smoke situation there would depend on which way the wind is blowing.
Don't know which way you usually go, but it looks like approaching from the west or NW would be best.

Highly suggest scouting the opening hours for the Stehekin Bakery before the trip:
