STOL Expo fly-in at Independence, OR (7S5) - 9/2/2017

I was asked to post this by EAA 292...
----------------------------------------------

STOL EXPO 2017 - General Rules & Information

On Sept 2nd, EAA Chapter 292 will be hosting the fly-in “STOL EXPO”. It’s open to the public and GA aircraft, but focused on STOL type aircraft (Short Takeoff and Landing).

Oregon’s Independence airport, 7S5, will be closed to aircraft traffic for two hours (2pm to 4pm), see NOTAM. This short closure is a function of the premier event, a limited STOL competition, for high performance purpose built aircraft and experienced pilots.

Registration fee is $25 for competitors, subject to pre-approval. Registration covers 1st priority overnight tent camping site on grass. No open fires, smoking in designated area only. Fees will be pooled to help fund a ‘fuel purse’. All competitors will receive safety instructions ‘info packet’ upon arrival. To apply for registration and reserve a camp site… email [email protected] and a registration form will be sent. Please fill it out and return asap.

Aircraft Classes will be divided into four groups. Certified at 1320 GW and under = (LSA), Experiment at 1320 GW and under = (EXP LSA), Certified over 1320 GW = (BUSH), and Experimental over 1320 GW = (EXP BUSH). Window for competition hopefully will be longer in the future allowing for more classes.

Fly-in pilots and their passengers – no registration required. Overnight tent camping on grass is $25 if available, first come first served, greeter will register you for campsite on arrival.

Avgas available 24/7.

Star Duster Café is open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Boy Scouts will be selling great hotdogs after.

Motels, banks, restaurants available locally in the towns of Independence and Monmouth.

Holy short notice! This sounds awesome! I might try to sneak down there as a spectator.

Sounds like a great event to me not sure I can break away. Wonder how many are competing?

Summer is drawing to a close and lots of last minute events are piling up. I think I'll try to make this one as an observer. My Maule is pretty heavy, stock, and only has 180 Hp. I'm not a contender.

I'm not ready to compete either but would like to go but can't find anyone from my area interested in going as well. Tough with this short notice for sure. I exchanged emails with Rod he said so far they have 8 competitors and are hoping for 10-12.
