Stoots IO-370 Swap Complete on 170B

Hey all, Heres a video of my first few flights after doing the Stoots IO-370 Swap on my 170. Hopefully I can get to some more backcountry/Remote areas soon, but these were just local grass strips while I'm putting the first few hours on. I am very impressed with the Stoots kit, he was there to answer any questions I had while doing the conversion. It took me just over 2.5months working weekends and week nights, that also includes putting a new instrument panel in at the same time.

I have a video on my channel prior to this one that talks a little more about the conversion.

Thanks, heres some before and after photos, I still need to do something for a glareshield and I retained the old shock mount setup, so I want to clean up the hardware, maybe just paint those nuts so they blend in.....

Dave is a great guy! I had a chance to stop into his hangar when I was in Fairbanks in May..

I got a quote from Dave about a year and a half ago for that package. Ouch!
I’m sure it’s quite a performer. Congrats.

Dave sent everything right on time, the biggest hold up was Continental, they took forever to get the engines going again after they fired a bunch of workers during covid. It sounds like they are really getting the engines out quick now, but Dave sent me everything I needed right on time and he was always answering the phone when I called in with any questions or concerns.

Yea I hear you, it wasn't the cheapest option, but I also have a lightweight starter, lightweight alternator, New lightweight prop, engine, That all are brand new 0 time. Mags fuel pump, the whole nine yards. Also An Engine analyzer, so I consider it a little more than just the power upgrade, and this engine and prop combo is very responsive... power is immediate on final!!! I bet I spent this much in Oil on my O-300 every year   :P

Haha, I am glad I caught it on the camera!! She has been a nervous flyer, but when she started giggling, I was like whats up??? haha she definitely noticed the difference in performance thats for sure!

I've gotten to know him pretty good talking on the phone over the course of the project, I am hoping I can make it up to fairbanks to swing by the hangar one day and check it out. He's gonna be in the lower 48 soon to work on the AOPA sweeps plane with them, but I think I'll be out west unfortunately.

Yep, the AOPA Sweepstakes 170 went from the Tampa Hang Out fly In up to Atlanta for its new engine last week. Dave Stoots was to assist with the conversion there.

Yes, I spoke to him a little bit about it, Pretty cool to see that since I'm a 170 guy myself...I got the AOPA to drop by the house a while back and got a good look at that 170, I'm excited to see how it turns out.

That AOPA Sweeps 170 is going to be a HORSE when they’re done with it.

I’m really looking forward to it complete!
