SW Oregon during the end of May

I'm heading to SW Oregon on May 26th and will be doing my annual on the 27th. I've been thinking about bringing my wife along and heading out to the coast for a couple days, she has never seen the ocean  I haven't surfed in a long time but thought it would be fun to rent a couple G-boards and play around a bit. Any opinions on where we should go? We will probably be camping out and will only have a couple days...we have a rafting trip that launches June 1st.

I live in Coquille, just inland from Bandon. Where is your annual being done? There are a lot of great camping spots in this area on the coast, some you can fly into. If you have any interest in Kiteboarding, we have prime kiting here and some great instruction is available at Floris Lake.

Let me know what your plans are. I also have some surfboards you may be able to use if you are going to be in this area. Port Orford has some good breaks if the wind is out of the North which it usually is that time of year.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Yeah Z, I have your #...hope you are able to make it down.

highroad,

My annual is being done at Steve's over at Beagle Sky Ranch. Kiteboarding looks like a lot of fun but has never been on my list of things to do. My wife really wants to try it though. At this point my only plans are to get the annual done on the 27th. If my wife is not able to come then I'll probly just head home on the 28th but we are hoping to make a fun trip out of it...not that doing an annual isn't fun :) Thanks for offering your boards but I don't like borrowing stuff...I break things too often.

Steve and Brian do a great annual and keep tabs on our pacer. If you are going to be flying in the area let me know. Always enjoy flying with fellow BCP members

Sounds like the beginning of an informal Southern Oregon BCP fly-in. One of the best kinds.

Would be cool to get a few of us together. It doesn't look like my wife is going to make, too many other trips planned and not enough time off. I'll probably have to head back to Boise the day after the annual is done. It is only a 3.5 hr flight so I'll have a good part of the day to do whatever.

You can always crash at my folks' house if I'm town and you need to overnight.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Thanks Z,

I'll be spending a couple nights there but I plan on tenting it, Brain said there is room and it won't be a problem. The plan is to arrive and Beagle late in the day on the 26th, do the annual on the 27th and head home on the 28th early enough that I won't get caught in the dark. Hopefull a few of us will be able to get together for whatever. I'm thinkin a ride in a 170B would be sweet 8)

I put those dates on the calendar. If my annual is done by then, and it should be, I will make it down.

Ah yes, the scheduled completion of an annual. What always starts with good intent seems to every year blossom into something bigger. I know I can't be the only one with this issue. It certainly causes me to shy away from out of area maintenance. Maybe if I stopped trying to help, things would go more smoothly?

I hear what you are saying. I am prepared to stay longer if I need to. I like doing owner assisted annuals because it helps save $$ and I get learn how to care for the plane. The guys at Beagle like doing owner assisted annuals and I get credit for the work I do. Two years in a row I tried to find someone in the Boise area that would do an owner assisted annual, most said sure but the cost will be the same.

By the way Matt...when we going up again?
