Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

I never imagined a month ago that the 170 would still be torn apart on this interior job. Was planning on joining up with everyone this week, but no guts in the cockpit still. I'll be in the hangar at Roseburg listining to all of you going over. :x

Tom Weiss perished in a mid-air collision October 12, 2014. He was an enthusiastic and beloved contributor here for close to 10 years, and he will be missed greatly.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Whee showed up last night and camped out under one of our trees, presently has his Luscomb tore down for the inspection. Have 1 and a half hours to lunch time, so if anyone else is going to make it by them, better get some air time...... :D

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

So we had a pretty good turn out considering it is in the middle of the week. Oregon180, RogerS, RobBurson, our leader 1seventyZ and a couple others. Of course Whee is here for his annual. A total of 5 airplanes including Whee's Luscombe. Will definatly consider doing this again maybee once or twice this summer. Will post a time for the next one.

Thanks for coming.

Well, it was good to see the guys that showed up. Thats about the end of the good news. The motor was making metal, we pulled two jugs and found the piston pin caps comming apart  Guess I'll be here a few days waiting on parts.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Thanks Brian and Steve for the hospitality and the tasty burgers.

It was great to see everyone. What a nice day!

Sorry to hear about your engine, Whee. The good news is that you're in great hands there and will be back in the air in no time.

Hope we see each other soon again.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

MauleWaco, Whee has a C-85 modified with the 0-200 crank and pistons. The culprit is a failed piston pin cap. Will get a pic and post. We have a new piston pin on the way via overnight from LA. Fortunately, since it was only the caps that failed, the metal got caught in the screen and did not go through the engine, so a good flush of the system and she will be ready to go.

Meanwhile, HEY ROBBURSON, do I get to keep this really nice Leatherman lock blade pocketknife???? :D
PM, me your address and I can send it home...

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Well I made it back home yesterday. Thanks you those of you that offered help and assistance in getting the parts I needed. We finally got the parts at noon on Friday and I was ready to go by 4 but decided to wait till Saturday morning so I'd have smooth air. Steve and Brain are great guys and do good work...will be back next year.

I got to ride with Steve in his 180hp Pacer...that was sweet 8)

Wondering if any of you fished while you were there last year? And if so how'd it go? Thinking of spending the last week of May somewhere cooler, and would really like to enjoy some fishing, but can't quite stretch the time for an AK trip

Are you after trout or steelhead? I've got my fly rod with me, maybe I'll go toss some flies this evening and see what's going on.

Re: SW Oregon during the end of May

Hi Z,

Trout, Salmon, Steelies...any of these would be great. A pirep would be awesome. I know nothing of costal / western oregon, outside the little tidbits one of the locals here tells me of his yearly Tillamook ventures... And who knows how much of that is fiction

I had planned on venturing to Timberon, NM for that week, but the current temps have me more interested in a coastal or mountain vacation. Will be cubbin it, so I can't get much farther than OR...

Take care, Rob
