Tailwheel Training - Boise, Twin, SLC, or Reno

Does any one know of a good instructor with plane in the Boise, Salt Lake, Reno, or Twin Falls areas? I have a friend that needs to get his TW endorsement fairly soon.

Here's a plug for Tim Brill, at Reno-Stead (RTS). He does TW and unusual attitude training in a decathlon.

I did my tailwheel endorsement with Tim. Good instructor, and he has experience working in Alaska. Back then he had a Super Cub. Also did emergency maneuvers/aerobatics intro with him in the Super D.

I found a video of my TW instructor from Nampa, Idaho (back when he was a kid!),

The best instructor I ever had! https://www.facebook.com/scotty.crandlemire

Has Pits for aerobatic training too.

He can go a little more north of Boise and see Lori in McCall. Get some BC instruction while they're at it.

Re: Tailwheel Training - Boise, Twin, SLC, or Reno

Thanks for the great responses from all who replied. He should be able to find one or even several to fly with and get his endorsement. Scheduling, especially when having to travel to get instruction, makes it a real challenge; I think he has plenty of good suggestions to follow up with now.

SkySteve, Paul was my first backcountry instructor many years ago. Great pilot and good guy. He taught me a lot about how to stay alive flying the BC. I didn't realize we is still in the region. I'll have to look him up sometime and Kevin will for sure be contacting Paul.

8GCBC, I began my TW Endorsement with Scotty. He was always a kick and has some really nice planes. He sold the decathlon we were using at the time not long after I started with him so I finished with someone else in AZ. Thanks for the heads-up as I didn't realize he was back at it.

Here is some more background on my buddy; Kevin just finished building a Bearhawk and needs to get his TW endorsement and build some solo BH time before he can get insured in his plane  . So once he gets the endorsement, he will also be looking to rent a plane just to build some hours. Minimum looks to be about 25 hours of TW time before he can fly the Bearhawk. His present TT is about 300 hours, with 0 TW.

Again, thanks for all the great responses. We'll see what Kevin can get worked out.

Re: Tailwheel Training - Boise, Twin, SLC, or Reno

Wayne Larson in Brigham City, UT has been flying tw forever. The cub he does training in has been in his family a few generations. He has a zillion hours. All small piston airplanes, lots of crop-dusting in mountainous Utah!
I got my endorsement there and had a great great time with Wayne. I thought he was an excellent, very knowledgeable instructor. He had some good fun methods to mix it up; fly the river at 500ft as a coordination exercise. We were able to land next to the rwy to get some gravel experience as well. Highly recommended.

Man that's one complete tailwheel list! :) This list probably also doubles as a great mountain flying training list - anyone here flown with Lori? any feedback?
