Talkeetna in July

Well I did it, confirmed trip to AK with 5 days of flying at http://www.alaskafloats.com/ in July. Shoulder surgery next week so I hope I am not testing my luck~! We had planed to head to Anchorage for mountain bike event and I added on time with Don Lee. I anticipate it to be some of the best flight training I will ever receive.

Float rating and wheel flying.

Ok, in the spirit of "When you are in... you must...":
When you are in Talkeetna, you must take a glacier flight up the Ruth gorge, around Denali, and add on a glacier landing if you've never experienced one. Plenty of amazing turbine Otters, Magnum Beavers, and radial Beavers to gawk at, but for my money, the 185s feel more like you're actually flying.
Hope you have great weather,

Re: Talkeetna in July

Yeah we will see what we can work in. I like beavers of all sorts  I had originally planned on going and flying skis with Don this month and looking into 'plane' bumming all summer up there - but the 'responsible' voice kept me gainfully employed with a job that is hard to get away from.

Hey 29, I'm also booked for bush flying with Don Lee in late June. Really looking forward to it. I have a seaplane rating, so mine will be 3 days of wheels and 3 days of floats, all fun!!! I'll post pix when I get back.

Cool! We're going to be coming through Talkeetna in July as well. Hoping to do the glacier landing in the Beaver. We should try to meet up!

Are you flying up, Scolopax?

X 2. I stayed away from the mountain for many years....it's just another big rock.... Then got involved in some glacier training and flew up there some....it's well worth it...a magnificent place, indeed.

Re: Talkeetna in July

I agree. I waited 10 years before I took a TAT flight on the glacier. Well worth it.

Have one of your Don Lee flights be a glacier landing??

John, I finally read "Wager With The Wind" at your recommendation. It was a great read. Thanks!

Just had an awesome week in the Ruth thanks to Paul and Richard. Will you be bringing up that 170 in your avatar pic?

There should be some contractual obligation that if you guys are talking about this in the open then you owe the rest of us some epic photos, videos, and trip reports. Deal?

Sounds like we need to set up a BBQ, fry, fly-in, or other general get together. Maybe at AK19... I know a guy!
