Texas BCP Fly in mid May

Hey guys, Im really interested in meeting some of you people from the warmer half of the country. I heard a couple people say that they could be up for a fly in sometime in May so I thought id get things rolling. For me the weekends of the 13 - 15 and 20 - 22 are wide open. I am open to any sugestioins on the location of the event in question but I just thought id throw out a couple ideas.

The first is Pierce field Down on the matagourda peninsula, it is a privately owned old WWII bomber training base. Though it is paved with 60 + year old concrete, its location alone makes it a backcountry strip with nothing but a few fishing cabins for miles around. I will call the owner and ask permission if anyone shows interest. Another is manning field just north of Jefferson texas (6F7), it has three turf runways ranging from 1500 - 5000 feet and the historic town of Jefferson is a great place to visit. The last one I know of is Weisner field (3F9) close to Mineola TX, nice sleepy little strip just over 3000 feet paved with a parallel rough grass runway, the trees surrounding the field make it somewhat interesting.

Throw out some ideas and lets get this thing rolling!

Hey Renegade, I'll keep watching this. Probably can't make it down to the coast this year, but if you end up at Jefferson or Mineola, I'll try to make it.

I just looked it up, seems like a cool place. Are you guys thinking about camping somewhere or just making a day trip? If we stayed somewhere we could fly arround and visit several small strips in whatever area we decide to go to. I know the owner of the air-strip in Jefferson and I know he would probably let us set up some events such as spot landings or STOL competitions if we wanted to. That catfish place shure sounds good though. Keep the conversation going, we'l come up with something :D

fly-in

McGahees Catfish Restaurant ( T40), is a great place to eat. Been there several times. Fly in and walk about 50 yds. to dinner. Good food, Great folks. The father and son that won best sea plane and best kit built cub at Sun and Fun, live 40 miles from there. They hold the Red River Red Neck Fly-in at their ranch. Great river flying in that area. I just found out that there have been two crashes there in under a month (both nosedraggers), and that the airport is currently closed because they are plowing it to make it smoother. No info on when it is going to opwn up again.

FYI
Just found out this AM that there is an annual Pancake Breakfast Fly in at Midway Regional Airport (KJWY) on Saturday June 2, 2007. This is half way between Midlothian and Waxahaxie, just south of Dallas. This is where I hangar, and the people are just great. They expect about 100 airplanes and alot of taildraggers. Breakfast tickets $5. Nice paved 18/36 runway(5000') with a grass strip parallel and to the east side of runway.
Also says Classic airplanes and fighters, remote control model flyers, swing band etc.
phone number is (972) 923-0080

This one looks good - its the weekend after I pick up my airplane (head hung low and mumbling - a 172) in FL and fly it back. Looks to be a 2 hr flight from home (92F in OK).

Let's also not forget Cedar Mills (3T0) - 3k of grass and a great restaurant with cabins right next to the tie downs.

It's in Sherman Texas. KSWI and the FBO is Voyager Air. More info at J-3 Cub. com. They are meeting for a breakfast and then a fly out to Cedar Mills, not too far away. Says all are welcome, but requests you rsvp through the site so they know who to expect. It's real local for me, and wanted to check out some of the Cubs. Doesn't look to be a huge fly in at this point, but looks like fun.
Seems like this is a busy time of the year for fly ins!

I'm up for the 13th to the 16th or 21 thru the 23rd. I would be coming from the KC area in a C180H, so nothing REAL short and rough, but willing to camp and explore. What you got in mind?

Ok heres my idea. My plane is getting an anual right now but if everything works out I will be good to go and will try to make it to the cub fly in. Then I might fly to the catfish place (im goining to call about the condition of the runway) and afterwards fly to jefferson for a night or two. with some other stops along the way maby. all of these strips are usable by just about any type of aircraft. I will post again tomorow when i know more info. every one is welcome to join me at any point along this little journey but I think the majority of the gathering should be in Jefferson or maby at mcgehees catfish resturaunt. Will add more info soon. 8)

Sounds good, and I'll follow your progress and plan. May try to get over to Jefferson for the day if you make it.

Still no info on mcgehees, no one is answering the telephone. I think i will go to the cub fly-in then spend the night at airpark in north dallas. I will set out for jefferson on sunday morning the 13th and stop at a couple of strips along the way there, if anyone wants to join me we could set a time and place to meet up, some grass strip just east of dallas. Once in jefferson we could could camp or stay and then visit a couple local strips around there such as Thackers (5F8) just north of shreveport or a private strip on Caddo lake that I found out about. Whose with me?! =D>

Hey Renegade-
I'm pretty sure that I can get with you on at least some of that---let me get Monday under my belt, and I'll know more what my time looks like. I'm hangared at Midway Regional airport(KJWY) that is south of Dallas, but don't live too far from Airpark(I live in North Dallas). You're welcome here if you don't have a place at airpark. My email is [email protected].

Weather permitting I would head off to Jefferson (6f7?) on the 13th also. Could probably be there by noon. Would be up for anything after that, probably need to head for home no later than the 17th.

Sounds good. Anyone else interested? Scoot, can you spend the night or will this be a one day deal for you? Im working on a couple places to fly to on monday or sunday afternoon. If you dont feel like camping there are tons of bead and breakfasts in jefferson and its really a cool town to visit.
