The creek a half mile from my home is now a 1/4 mile wide, class 3 riffle flowing right to the airport. Farm animals are everywhere looking for a place to call home for a while. Houses everywhere are underwater or worse. Im thankful to be outside the inundated area, and cant complain about the lack of electricity. It might be a few days by the look of it. Not sure what Ill find at the airport when Im able to go look one of these days.

We have 60ft ceilings anyway - not much to see from the air.

Oddly enough they are still not calling it a 100yr flood. The big Thompson flood of 1976 dropped 12 inches of rain in 3 hours. We had 8.5 in in 24 hrs.

More on the way. I was told by a fellow that it looked like a few feet of water ended up in the hangars. Not sure what that means yet, or if it was really that bad. Parts of the airport pavement may have been damaged. Im headed out soon down the street to see if I can find a dry place a bit closer to see the airport condition.

I just left for California as the rain started, but my Dad and dog were working at our hangar on the south side yesterday, then couldn't make it back home until late last night because the St Vrain is between the airport and our neighborhood. Sounds like the flooding is mainly on the north side but the new taxiway bravo is destroyed too, most likely along with many other sections of the airport. My mom said our neighborhood above Twin Peaks golf course is doing okay, but the course itself looks like a lake and all the neighborhoods next to the river are filled with water.

A buddy of mine said the waterline of St Vrain Creek was literally a mile up Airport Road from its normal bank. He said boats were motoring from Valley Park across the southern half of the golf course to school buses / ambulances that were waiting to haul them up to facilities on the north side of town. Medics were waiting on the “islands” in the golf course where the boats were landing, which were tee boxes and elevated greens. Rescue crews were driving boats and jet skis up and down 9th avenue.

I was at the airport about 3 hours ago, easy access from the S side, Saint Vrain blocks access from the N. Hwy barricades are up, must go around, some irrigation ditches overflowing across access Rd., no problem. Saw Arpt. Mgr. driving around. Sun is out good VFR, big helo flying around. Weak dam above arpt. dangerous.

Macktruckfarm, are you saying no flooding at the north hangars? Your hangar OK?

All looked OK. Just water at the entrance from ditch overflowing.

Has anyone been to the Greeley airport? I haven't been able to raise anyone over there, and I can't drive there until they open the roads again. I suspect I have water in the hangar--usually do after any rainstorm--but I'm a bit more concerned than usual.

According to the Longmont Airport Facebook page, no hangars were flooded, only one had water come up to the door, but power is still out and probably will be until midweek.

The dam above the longmont airport did fail - but the water didn't flood the property any more than it already was. Apparently there was flooding in Elite Aviation (former twin peaks) building.

KLMO is dry on the north side. There may have been some moisture in a few buildings, but probably from a lack of drainage rather than a current.

A few folks are content doing chores around their hangars. One unfortunate crazy person is loudly screeching at people to get the hell away from the airport. So- situation (relatively) normal.

CO National Guard was airlifting all night - today they are taking out school kids trapped up at Calwood. FEMA is set up at KBDU.

Big props to all the First Responders, Rescue Teams, the National Guard and all the Volunteers for your hard work and compassion during this truly historic event in Colorado History.

The CDR of the National Guard detachment said in a Press Conference today, that the number of helicopter rescues (over 700 as of today), has eclipsed the total number completed during Hurricane Katrina!

+1. Well said, Viper. And Soyanarchisto great pix, those really tell a strong story. My industrial spies inform me that KFNL, FortLove was also quite busy with lots of the heavy cargo helicopters, plus civilian rescue copters AND normal training/transient traffic--all handled fairly smoothly despite much of the apron being torn up for reconstruction. And NO TFR there.

For all of us, this is a good reminder of the importance of "small" (heck those two are LARGE!) General Aviation aerodromes. This is a story that goes unnoticed by most. And for our friends who fly out of the P.R.B., a letter to the editor might be in order to remind the good citizens of this. It's a good thing those military helicopters don't make any noise, UNLIKE those pesky J-3's and sailplanes
