The Back of My Head

Been putting some time on an old Champ lately, having fun flying a stick again. Erin shot this a few weeks ago while I was still sort of figuring it out (ba bump..slam!)

Nice Zane. Does this mean the 170 found a new home? That first strip looked like it had a "float pond" next to the runway. russ

Keep the shiney side up and the dirty side down...

Re: The Back of My Head

Ditto what Don said...maybe if you missed the runway that far you need glasses or something! I'm sure glad on that last landing you found the asphalt! :P

Some places they chew you out for that. :) Lenhardt's is a great little airpark. Did you see that Stearman on the ground? It was some sort of photo shoot.

Negative, Russ. The 170 is still mine and I am having fun flying both aircraft. :)

Dont have to tell this crowd....

...that there is nothing like landing in the grass. My hangar sits on one acre of private property that ajoins the airport at the northern end. We have a 5,000 ft. paved runway but....there is a 600ft. long area of flat airport property grass that runs right next to my hangar.

You would need to possess the resolve of a saint to pass up that soft, smooth, lush carpet. So I take off and land there almost every time. The former airport manager warned me of "Gopher Holes" but kind of looked the other way. Indeed when the airport was closed for a year while the new runway was being built...I was the only guy who continued to operate there. Sort of my own little private 600ft. strip.

The current airport manager just smiles and says nothing. Wish it were really all mine.

Old Champ??? LOL...Hey its got one of those radio thingys..and a transponder!!!! ;)
I never thought I would like a Champ but ended up buying Russ's "SuperChamp" a few years ago and even though I had my heart set on a Super Cub (Wallet was having a disagreement with my heart) I will have to say they are a fun plane to have.
That looks like a nice Champ from the little I saw of it. Glad to see you had a good time with it.

Re: The Back of My Head

I may have to transition to a champ in the future, myself.
The cub cabin just keeps getting higher and tighter every year. (unfortunately, it is not just tight jeans)
These old joints just don't flex like they used to, and a 'door' is looking inviting......
I do love my cub, though. Once I am 'in' and have that stick in my hand, all is right with the world. :D :D

PS Champs are good, too! :)

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).
Success has many fathers...... Failure is an orphan.
