FWIW, AIM 4-1-11 specifies 122.75 as the official air to air frequency.

http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publicat ... m0401.html

In our area, that frequency gets really busy. I think it's better to use a quarter frequency like .775 or .725 for activities you might not want to share with the people flight training, in our case Hillsboro flight schools use 122.75.

Yeah then they would have to listen to everyone else's chatter.... I don't think there's any thing wrong using a different freq if its not assigned to any other airports or atc in the area.

26" are big enough to get started for sure, lots of places on cottonwood and the columbia river that 26" is plenty big.

[quote="Mauleguy"]I would be up for that, keep me in the loop for UT.

I will keep you posted on it Greg, and BCP's that are interested. We will have to coordinate how many days you want to spend down in UT and the dates, weather, etc. I will PM you on some of the ideas I have and were we might want to stay and so on, some time at the end of this month.

As Greg says, 26'' goodyears will be fine for a lot of places on the Columbia. I've landed a couple different spots on Cottonwood Island with 8.00s, and a few of the beaches along the river are sometimes firm enough to land on with smaller tires.

Re: The Challenge

Well fellers, I'm with you guys.
Seriously tho' I haven't had any issue on the bars I've landed with the little 26's. I was just trying to respect the entrance qualifiers.
Count me in for Sunday, sounds like a gas.

Hey Dave 8)
I wish we had some better wx. Troutdale, Portland, and Pearson all IFR. Close to Cottonwood Island is Kelso, they are OVC 1200.

TAFs say by late morning to early afternoon we should get some decent ceilings.

Greg I will mozy on down when the clouds lift a bit. I'll text you to see if your there. If you want text me a pirep when you get to the island.

G'Day...Rob

Re: The Challenge

This was asked on supercub.org, how do we find cottonwood? It is the large island south of the Kelso airport but I brought it up on google earth and this is what I got.

Google Earth says 46 04 46.82 N 122 53 29.61 W (This is for the International Strip)

My fog just keeps getting thicker here, if I would have left when I woke up at 6:30 am I would have not had any problem getting out but by the time I got done doing all the stuff I needed to and looked out it was the Oh, shit I missed my chance.

145*[email protected] from KKLS

I have flown over CWI many times, never landed. It looks like there are several places up on dry land to land. I'm going to bring the ez up in case of a shower. A chair too. Got to be comfy while BSing. I'll bring some fire wood too, it looks like a fire type day.

Where is base camp so I can empty the junk in the trunk?

So Greg will you and Daryl will be camped at the international strip? I'm at 130*M@4KM from KTTD Troutdale. At OregonMaule International wind calm DZ 3SM OVC 040 and a balmy 41* looking better than an hour ago.

Cheers

Re: The Challenge

Well, made the decision to bag the camp out this time.

I am going to head out to the island for some strip clean up with the chain saw in 30 minutes if any one else is out I will be in and out of the airplane using 122.77 when I am in the air.
