Re: The Green Beaver!

Owning the company has been a huge learning experience even though I have started two other businesses and been the DO of another 135. There was just a lot of little things that we learned that will make things a lot easier next season. Dealing with the FAA has been straight forward for the most part, there were some small hiccups but resolved early and easily.

The beginning of the summer was amazing weather which allowed me to learn the new aircraft and the new geography before the typical coastal Alaskan summer weather came in.

A good sense of humor helps. I got above my hip waders so many times that my wife brought two sets of dry clothes to the office. I lost hold of the plane with four folks onboard who were going into a camp. The plane started floating away. The camp staff and the folks waiting to leave with me watched wade out in chest high water to catch it. Now tell me how it is at all possible to look dignified when you are completely soaked...I just laughed and made a big show of emptying my waders which were filled with water.

Yep, that's float flying.....I can't recall how many times I got in a little deep, and/or temporarily lost my grip on the mode of transport, so to speak.

Beaver is a GREAT working airplane....respect it, and will treat you very well.

Re: The Green Beaver!

Really nice video. The most amazing thing was that not a single person wandered out to be photographed hugging a bear! Over the years, I've seen many turistas around here, getting up close and personal with wildlife, as if they're nothing more than big friendly dogs.

Glad things are working for you. Small business is tough; small aviation business is outrageously tough.
