The Nestea Plunge

well, after five months of looking for a new plane (and lurking around here - picking everyone's virtual on-line mind), I took the plunge and bought N5077D, a '58 182. P-Ponked with a 3 blade MacCauley, and a ton of other upgrades, I'll be bringing her home to Alaska this spring. Thanks to Bill Reid, who flew out from Nevada to St. Louis and then drove down to Poplar Bluff, MO to do the pre-buy and appraisal for me. The two days I spent with him were a serious education about airframes and powerplants.

Re: The Nestea Plunge

Nice looking plane! Are you going to leave the wheel pants on, or remove them? The POH for my '59 172 says they only give a gain of 1 kt. airspeed. I figure they're taking almost a case of beer out of my payload, so mine grace the corner of my hangar. Of course, the drag reduction on a 182 might be quite a bit more, given the higher speed of the plane.

Re: The Nestea Plunge

Thanks All. kevbert, I'll probably take the pants off in the spring as a lot of the strips I go into are gravel. (On the other hand, maybe sacrificing the pants will keep the rocks from kicking up into the elevator . . . ?

Cheers,

John

Re: The Nestea Plunge

Very Nice

Who holds the STC for that panel?
I once saw a 210 that had to have its $20,000.00 panel removed before the feds would remove the red tag
For some reason they just hate it when people make there panel pretty with no STC
