Thin ice, watch out!
Debrief, share, and hopefully learn from the mistakes of others.
Seems to happen every year be it truck, snow machine, 4 wheeler or airplane. Looks like someone recently went thru the ice. Who what when and where isn’t important, what is important is to proceed with extreme caution.

This is only my third winter in northern Minnesota but I’ve been exposed to a wild range of weather and temps already. This year is certainly mild in terms of low temps and the ice at our house is still only 9” thick. I’ve been extremely wary and curious about ice dynamics since moving here and this does nothing to ease my concerns hahaha.
On one hand it keeps things interesting. On the other hand I guess I’m relieved to not have a flying plane I’d be tempted to go break through ice somewhere.

Someone on this forum mentioned dropping bowling balls on ice a few years ago to see if it was safe to land on. Don't remember all the details, because I don't land on ice myself.

Sounds like a pretty spendy test if it turns out that the ice isn't thick enough.
Dunno what a bowling ball costs, but they can't be cheap.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
The above article talks about radius of influence... Landed at this ice house because it had atv's around it - turned out it was only 6 inches of ice and water began flooding up through the holes all around the trailer! Loaded up and scooted out of there right after this pic!
