The third window om the 182 was introduced in 1960. Found a 1957 182A model with a third small window on the sides. Was this an Stc or special model?
Thanks

The 182 was produced for one or two years (in the early 60's) with 3 side windows. Awkward looking IMHO but some folks like them.
A new guy on my airport has a 53 C180 with 3 windows. Ive also seen a 53 C180 ("Gnarley Dude") so configured. Dunno if they were mods, or repairs/rebuilds which utilized (pieces of) different year fuselages.
FWIW I much prefer the 2 window look.

That is definitely not factory. Also it is the original style skins and bulkheads above the rear seat and baggage area. I have seen in picture a 53 180 that was rebuilt and it used the skin and bulkheads of the 1960 and later that gave more headroom in that area. Lots of people would never know the difference.

I have seen a few of them in for sale adds only. You would have to change that aft cabin skin and the fuselage to flap fillets. You could possibly do it with the original skin but would would have some rivet holes to fill in from the old fuselage fillets. You would obviously need two windows and the window retainer channels.
I would imagine they are all field approved. Or get a bold IA and use the PM for approved data. Like model type of thing...

I assumed it was a factory rear window. I didn’t even look At the photo.
That’s just a hole with all the original stuff. It sure doesn’t flow well does it.

That's not what the little guy stuffed into the baggage area is thinking...

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Yeah, cut Mini-Me some slack and let him have a window.

He’s probably staring at an IPad anyway.

That's a 1960 182 that has been converted to a straight vertical.

Seems like a lotta work.
"Just buy a 180" seems like an appropriate comment.

Wide body is so comfortable, one of the main reasons I have one. Too bad this one is experimental exhibition, kinda useless...

Here's my 3 window '53 180 shortly after first flight in 1992. Station 90 bulkhead, cabin top skin and flap fairings were replaced. Wheel pants and 6:00's only stayed on for 6 months, been on 8:50's since.

JSM, your plane it the one I was thinking about in my previous post. Think it was in an ad in a magazine quite awhile ago. Was the paperwork a pain to change the bulkhead etc?
