This is the Pits

Does anyone in the BCP community have experience with excessively pitted cylinder walls ?

How did the issue/concern first manifest itself, what were the initial indicators that gave you reason to delve into it further ?

Re: This is the Pits

I am not sure what "excessive" means, but my current 185 had a 12 year old engine when I bought it 2 years ago, with only 230 hrs flown in that 12 years. The cylinder walls were pretty rusty and pitted due to the dis-use.

Fast forward almost 2 years and about 75 flight hours (I wasn't able to fly it much the first 6 months due to some major upgrades I was doing), and it still doesn't burn any measurable oil and has compressions in the 70's.

The pitting doesn't seem to bother it any so far.

I had replaced all the lifters which were pitted/spalled right after I bought it.
