Thoughts while planning my trip

Hey guys,

I’ve been posting quite a bit about where to go on my trip (thanks for all your suggestions!).

But there’s more going through my mind than just which route to take.
I’ll be posting about that here first, but I’d love everybody to follow along on my blog:

http://flywithwolf.com/blog/

One of the first questions which comes up in the context of camping under the wing is: what do I bring ?

"Useful load", so to speak...here: the stuff that’s useful to load for my across-the-continent trip.

As far as camping equipment is concerned I’ll just mention a few of the things I really like.

Let’s start with my Marmot tent – it’s the Limelight 3P model.
Lot’s of space, even for two people, two vestibules for storage, lots of practical details, easy to set up, sturdy, proven in bad weather.
On my last trip I used the older version

Recently I bought the new(er) model, which retains all the pros and adds more volume due to its boxier design.

Take care of your ride and she will take care of you, I am a big fan of Duckbill anchors and wing spoilers for that day when you get caught in big wind without a hanger or tie down. Duckbills cost around 25 dollars for a set and once you put them in they are staying for the next guy. But it is the cheapest insurance I can think of. Two sets of Duckbills/1 driving rod/axe should be all you need. For camping I like the high back chair https://helinox.com/products/sunset-cha ... 8616260782 You can get rockers for the legs great for tundra or in the tent. Helinox cot with leg extensions is also great. I also carry a hanging water purifier and collapsable 5 gal water jug. Great for 3-4 day camp nest to a stream. Yeti cooler will keep cold stuff cold for 4-5 days. The rest of the stuff is just basic camping gear. Cash and a willingness to throw all plans out the window is always the best addition to any trip.

Duckbills are solid. I guess I would caution to install them deep enough so that the cable is barely above ground so if a guy comes along to mow he doesn't shred them and/or the mower blade.

I've never seen wing spoilers. How do they install?

Some mountain and backcountry instruction from an experienced CFI who flies the areas where you will be exploring is as important as any gear you might bring along.

I was interested in your video, but even with my speakers turned to max volume, I couldn't hear what you were saying. A video editor will let you boost the volume of the sound track, or you could get a remote mic for your next recording. I am interested in following your adventure.

Bring a trowel and set of cable cutters. Dig down 6 inches and lop the top off, or you could at least bend it over 6 inches down that way it can never stab someone's foot or tire. Otherwise, we're just setting someone else up to deal with our trash.
