Tips on flying the Alcan through Canada
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
I've got a couple questions for those who have made the trip. First question is, I've got 3in numbers, should I tape temporary 12in numbers with tape? I know you have to have 12in numbers for border crossing, but do they even check for that? Second issue is carrying rifles through Canada. I have the forms filled out for the Non-resident temporary firearm license application, are there any tips as far as carrying rifles through? Any tips are greatly appreciated.

You don't need 12" numbers unless you are going to fly through an ADIZ (off the coast aways). Can't help you on the rifles.

Make sure on the firearm application that you check the box which says "protection from wildlife".

Don't use the Scobey boarder crossing....the Canadians are friendly.....while they search through everything. Three maybe four aircraft per year use the full growth grass strip. I wonder if it ever gets mowed? Flew up the prairie to Fort Nelson..... Then followed the AlCan.... Sort of.

I plan on going up in a week, and planning on clearing customs at Letherbridge AB.
