To Iceland and back. Any takers?

Anyone interested in flying to Iceland and back in June of 2019? This is in the very early stages of planning and details are not quite avaialable just yet. Figured I would let you all know what’s going on. All are welcome to join.

That’s definitely the cheaper way to get there! Lol but maybe not as much fun :D

What are you flying over? Roughly how much time do you plan to spend there?

As of right now I’m planning on flying my 182, I’ll probably have big wheels on it still so I won’t be moving too fast. Not sure how much time will be spent there just yet, it will be organized by a group that puts together these types of trips so I’m sure it will be somewhat flexible. The organization is basically like a handler, they have their own fuel stops along the way and other support if needed.

I will pass, way too much that can go wrong over very hazardous terrain and very unforgiving wx over Greenland and the North Atlantic.

But I do like Zane's idea!

hmm. 55 gallons usable. Getting to Provo is hard to do on a tank.

Re: To Iceland and back. Any takers?

55 gallons would give you plenty of range for the fuel stops en route.

And I'm sure anyone who would be willing to sign up for this type of trip is well aware of the any inherent risks.

I don't doubt that it will be boring along the way, I remember how bored I got flying through Canada on my way to Alaska last year. I made the mistake of not loading my phone or ipod with music before I left...and i was alone....it was quiet. If I wasn't having to head back to AK in about a week (for the month) I would definitely take you up on that ferry trip back this way! maybe next time :D

Flying over Eastern Russia is very scenic! It reminds me of Alaska.

Boring? Haha, you'll be too busy trying to figure out what all the strange engines noises are to be bored.

OY, what a bunch of googans!
You don't fly to Iceland for the flight.

It's one of the most stunning natural places in the world, after alaska of course, and I would kill to have a fat tired 182 or my tripacer there for a summer

Just returned from my second trip there a coupl weeks ago... I'll post more about the flying possibilities later

I was sure somebody would say something, but I never got a notification about that featured article either. I did get the article about Paul the paraglider...

Anyway, the article is done well enough to stir up enough interest to look into the logistics of that kind of trip.

I'm just being a smartass. We published that piece 2 years ago. 8) I only recently started emailing updates via the newsletter for new feature content.

Re: To Iceland and back. Any takers?

So, just to exercise the brain while stuck inside (been foggy and misty here for 3 weeks...), what is the departure point and where are the planned fuel stops along the way? Fat chance I could do this but it would be a fun exercise playing with the planning details.

Re: To Iceland and back. Any takers?

We regularly ferry helicopters back and forth, more fuel critical and with more potential single points of failure than your well-maintained 182. Just money, and “how long can you stand on one leg” kind of challenging. Don’t forget to load that “bump before you bump” app that everyone in Iceland uses.
