TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

Shout out to all our boys and girls in the armed forces today. THANK YOU, for protecting our freedoms, and all that we take for granted here in the greatest country in the world.

TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

We certainly have a large number of military on here, active and former. Thank you guys, and remember that the appreciation is year-round.

Skinner, is it also veterans' day in Canada?

They call it Remembrance Day.

It was a privilege. I ate free at Olive Gardens and then walked it off with my dog. I was lucky, in 1971, to return to an area, the Ozarks, that honored veterans even in that turbulent time.

Went to IHOP for breakfast -then to Midikey for free oil change - taking wife and daughter to dinner . I was lucky in my 30+ years of U.S. Army service. Happy Veterans Day to all VETS!

Re: TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

I didn't take advantage of any of the local discounts or freebies, but I appreciate the recognition for me and my fellow vets. Although I didn't go to southeast Asia, I served during Viet Nam (USAF JAG), and just like most who served then, I occasionally experienced the public's dissatisfaction with that war. I am really glad that our kids returning from the desert aren't being mistreated the way many vets of the late 60s and early 70s were. That was a tough time.

Now, let's all pool our obvious superior intellect (after all, we're all pilots, the highest form of humans, right?) and figure out how to solve all the conflicts in the world so that wars can be strictly a thing of the past. Whenever I see a story about some young kid who was maimed by an IED or suffers the silent injury of PTSD, I do so wish that no more youngsters would have to suffer.

But in the meanwhile, thanks to all my friends, on here and elsewhere, who served or are serving. Until we are able to do something about our human penchant to fight over our differences, it is all of us (and our allies) who serve who have made us free and who will maintain our freedom.

Re: TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

I wear a poppy from nov 1 to the 11th.. And then it stays on my sun visor out of sight.. Let's me remember about the ones that have given the ultimate sacrifice for something that we may or not agree with, but was willing to do, for us. I make my children stop and be silent for a minute. Even if we aren't at the cenotaph.
I will never know the horrors that these soldiers have gone through. I will always be forever grateful, and I hope my children will grow up feeling the same.

Re: TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

Thanks for the appreciation guys. Like most others who served during the Viet Nam era I certainly was not thanked or appreciated (California).

So I've made it a point to support our troops ever since. I remember being in an airport on a trip going somewhere during the first Gulf War. I spotted a young Army Captain who was trying to standby his way home on leave. Didn't have much money back then or I'd bought him a ticket, but I did have enough to buy him lunch. We chatted a bit and I swear he looked so young, too young to be a Captain. I guess we were all that young when we served. Strange feeling.

Anyway, thanks to all my brothers and sisters who have or are serving!

Re: TO OUR VETS: THANK YOU!

Thanks too to our vets on here!

I enjoyed a free haircut and then had an early lunch date at the chick-fil-a with the wife where they gave me a free sandwich. Spent the rest of the afternoon turning dinosaurs into noise at my nearest grass strip. Today was a good day :D

"And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: be ye not troubled: for all of these things must come to pass, and the end is not yet.". Mathew 24:6

Bad thing but very human. We're like the hero Katzandias (Zorba the Greek) told about. He went up to the abis and asked God, " What must I do. ". God said, " Do what you can, my son. " The hero was crestfallen and yelled, "No! That is not enough." "Do what you can not," God said.
