Hey, those MT props really ARE wood on the inside

Someone posting as "Silverton Mountain" on Facebook posted this. I guess it happened in the Chugach right in front of them. Skiing sure looks good.

With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Re: Hey, those MT props really ARE wood on the inside

dumb question, but with the "wooden prop" is a prop strike any easier on the engine, you would think the wood splintering wouldnt hurt the engine as much. am i wrong or?

Re: Hey, those MT props really ARE wood on the inside

The strike with an MT is easier on the engine. There is less impact force on the crank and I was told that if you have the MT, suffer a strike causing sudden stoppage of the engine and have to replace the crank, Flight Resources wants know about it. It would be the first reported. Otherwise (with the MT) you still have the required tear down and inspection of the engine, but most likely no crank replacement.

Edit. In the photo it is obvious that the MT broke at the wide part of the blade. At that point I understand that it is as expensive to rebuild as it is to just buy a new one. That's right, I have spent some time working for MT and so will this guy.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Having skis doesn't make every landing in snow work out, does it? :(

Dam...I'm heartbroken for the guy...funny thing is I swear that M6RV6 and I parked right across from this bird at Lake Hook last summer...I remember looking at the prop and his ski riggin. Very sad.
