I'm gonna keep the 180 for now. Thanks for your input.

I think many of us wish we were in the plane you have. I apologize for making light of you thinking of trading down, I'm sure almost of us will face that sometime. Airplanes are expensive toys, who knew? It does bring up a good question about the slightly higher operating costs versus taking a bath on the value of selling what you have. That would be all math I'm sure that there are additional things to think about like would my wife mind living in a van down by the river in retirement or not?
Best regards

Well, I don't know about you, but if the wife has to spend retirement living down by the river so we can keep the plane, then that is how it will be. good move on keeping the 180. My bet is you would have sellers remorse.

It must be disappointing to "trade down", and hard to get used to a lower level of performance. A guy at my airport (who I don't really know) sold off his M4-220 maule a few years ago and bought a stock straight-tail C150 to replace it. Talk about two different animals!

when i sold it it was to a young guy here at Gillespie field who wanted it to build time for an insurance requirement so he could fly his dads 210. He then sold it to the guy who has it now and he hasn't had it that long.. fabric is old but it tested good all over when i sold it... it might just last a few more years if kept inside...but the engine is strong and it has that flat prop, unless one of them changed it...

Re: Tri-Pacer

I keep seeing comments about taildraggers not having visibility forward.

Seems to me cameras and displays are cheap equipment these days.

Is there any reason a camera can't be shock mounted (anti-vibration) up in the top of the windshield looking forward? Then mount a flip down display right behind it.

Since you can see out either side, the field of view for the camera would just cover the blind spot.

eBay even has a rearview mirror with a camera and built in display with night vision for about $60

I'm sure it's not a great option, but you get the idea.

Curious with bush tires and climb prop, along with the related increased AoA, what is a reasonable takeoff distance?

Re: Tri-Pacer

Tri-Pacer is the poor pilot's 182. Not a huge difference in the two except price. Bungee worked well on many airplanes. Stronger nose gear than Cessna.

Re: Tri-Pacer

Right, get a light Tripacer/Pacer conversion with the gross weight increase STC of 2,000 lbs and it will fly a load! Too bad the Colt didn't have the Weight increase, it's almost an identical airframe minus flaps and rear seat. Put the 0-320 STC on the Colt and it becomes a performer.
