Troy Hamon to the Rescue

News from Katmai NP: http://www.adn.com/article/20140801/sna ... ng-illegal

The good news is, the media didn't butcher this one too bad....

Troy, sorry for the misspell of your name, I tried to edit in the title but don't have the power....

mtv, can't slip anything past you!

I thought the article was better than average. That's two times in the past two weeks the same lady has called me about some bear story in the park, and done a pretty fair job of not butchering our conversation.

Although, not sure I really can take any credit. I did set the wheels in motion to get the situation rectified...but I never even saw the bear. My staff sent in the photo, I made phone calls until I reached somebody that could fix it, and they went and did it. Worked out pretty well, which is fortunate. Not all capture events turn out well, so we felt pretty lucky everything came together to make this one happen.

Re: Troy Hamon to the Rescue

Troy,

I learned early in my career in the wildlife business that if you find a reporter that will ACCURATELY report a story, you need to really appreciate them, and feed them other leads for potential stories. When I worked in Kodiak, we developed a pretty good relationship with an Anchorage Daily News reporter, and it really paid off in the long run.

I thought this one was pretty well done, without pointing fingers at anyone, and explaining the process, which can be a mangers worst nightmare if it goes south.

Sounds like your folks did a good job.
