Anyone else manage to get a modern autopilot in an RSTOL skywagon yet? So far shot down by Trio, Trutrak, and Garmin. A local installer is willing to take a crack at the Garmin with no guarantees and 70 hours of labor. ~$17K and do not really want a G5 which will look suboptimal in a 75 non-sixpack panel. The only approved option thus far is a refurbished Stec 55X which will come in around $15. Too much for old tech.

A friend of mine has a single-axis (roll only) TruTrak autopilot on an experimental Pacer.
The servo mounts on the control column & interfaces with the chains on the aileron cables--
very clean & very simple, which I like.
1) does TruTrak sell a similar single-axis a/p for certified airplanes?
2) is the lack of pitch control really much of a big deal?
I don't plan to take naps when otto's flying.

Can anyone speak to the TruTrack/BKAerocruize flying a heading from a G5? I saw some comments on it, but can't find anything on Google.

Yes, you can take the heading from the G5.
I installed one and had it wired to a DPDT switch to pull from the GPS heading or the G5 heading.
