Truck or Air Frt.?

To all of you guys that know!
Have about 400lbs 0n a pallet to ship from 02190 in MA. to either 99167- Rice Wa. or Spokane WA.- GEG. My Brother could pick it up there.
No hurry on this so does not need AOG expedited speed.
I won't be home till Dec.
Any suggestion on who or the best forwarder to use #-o . I am in AK at the end of a phone or website.
Don't know if it might just be cheaper to air frt no heavier than it is?
Appreciate any suggestions!! =D>
Thanks GT

I don't know what air freight in the lower 48 costs...

But I just shipped a crated engine of similar dimension to Anchorage from SoCal, and YRC freight charged me around $550. From Anchorage to King Salmon, ACE is charging me more just for the 300 mile flight.

Be sure you have enough insurance coverage on it. Standard shipping coverage is very low. I paid about $50 for excess liability ($20K) on my last engine. Just do a web search for excess shipping liability and you will have numerous choices who will provide online quotes.

I'm glad I asked the carrier (Yellow Freight) and found out their coverage was about $700 if they damaged the freight. Not near enough $ if they screwed up.

You're never too old to learn something stupid.

Re: Truck or Air Frt.?

Check these LTL carriers.......

FedEx Freight
UPS Freight
Old Dominion Freight
ABF
Oak Harbor
R&L Carriers

If you don't have a forklift or loading dock, make sure you ask about hand unloading or liftgate trailer. Some companies may charge extra for this.

Just to name a few.

In Alaska...Carlisle Trucking might be a good choice. Have shipped a few items... They say from the lower 48 no problem.

freightcenter.com works well. Best rates and service for several large loads.

I just shipped 500+# on a palett from MO to MT for $165 with FedEx. It was sitting here in 4 days. Make sure you use a corporation name or business name...price doubles if it's just to you personally.

Check with a company that has a terminal in Spokane. You might be able to pick up at their terminal.

Glad it worked out. When I use freight center I call and tell them what you are shipping, the class code will change the price, they help you on this. Airplane parts or aluminum or engine can be different class codes. Insurance covers the item.
