Here in Alaska, I'm told it's not necessarily the rate of attrition, it's that when a plane has to get retrieved, it's not generally on a nice highway median. Instead it's out in the bush far from infrastructure and services. True of significant portions of NZ too.

Yeah you are probably quite right, I was only made aware of this in taking to the insurance Broker.

On the other hand, a fair few planes go missing and are never seen again! I'd have to check the fine print to see whether they pay out on those "disappearances".
