Rattle can cowl came out nice from this distance. I'm inspired to paint mine that way. The leading edge cuffs are fine in silver by my lights. Looks good mister. I might be a weight guess winner with the MT. That's what I thought we were measuring..... :D

Re: UPDATE 9/14 -My Cessna 180 Project - She is Flying

A few photos for this thread...

Can only find 1 small oil leak as you will see by the photos. Its coming from my number 4 spring. Not bad but we are addressing it. Oil temps are running around 185 now with CHT's running in the 350 for all 6. Seems as though she is doing really well so far and all seems to be settling in.

The new wing is unexplainable. I am really anxious to get into some Stall work to she how she really performs but not just yet. Having the neutral wing incidence has been great as well. I used to have +3 degrees on my left wing. The are both neutral for now. I may have a very so slight heavier right wing but honestly not certain just yet. She leaps off the ground! As said, I really need to get into the stall work once she is really broken in to verify on the lack of VG's that I have now. It is just an entirely new plane. New wing and leading edge. I am going to fly her without the VG's for awhile BUT, they will go back on so that I can say I have tried the Sportsman with and without. If I dont like them, they will come off.

Back to the engine, I have been running full throttle getting almost 2450 (@5000') and 175knts. Basically I am at the top of the yellow arc very quick like if I am not careful on a descent! She screams along!

The 3 blade mac also does not feel all that heavy on the nose however I am thinking she feels a bit heavier as that would only make sense. Its just unreal how much she wants to throw you through the front windshield when you roll that prop in. It literally wants to pull me out of my seat.

I will be testing out the MT once the break-in is complete. (another 15 hours or so...)

I have to be real careful when pulling the dipstick if anything drips inside the cowl I get the smoking rivets and such.

Re: UPDATE 9/14 -My Cessna 180 Project - She is Flying

Are you seeing a little drip comming out of the draft tube as well? I have about 10-11hr on my pponk, thats my only spot of oil coming out...my temps seem very in line with yours although i did see 380-390 coming out of chico the other day but it was 102 ambient, put the nose down to 300' climb went down to 340...175kts thats amazing the best ive seen in the 182 is 165kts...but i aint complainin about 165!!!

Mike

BTW graham up at nw air changed my oil at 4hr right before i picked plane up, he is telling me to run the oil thats in it to 20 hr, ive looked at the pponk paperwork and it seems to agree with that, unless im reading something wrong.

150-155kts in the pattern level....with 29's on her. The 175 plus was in a 100/200ft per/min descent. Went into the yellow arc very quickly. Not used to that at all.

As for the oil change stuff per Steve Knopp- he said verbatim, change oil at 1 hours and to not be alarmed at all the gunk we see and then change oil and filter at the 3 hour mark past that...and to again, not be alarmed at all the gunk we see. Obviously if metal was present we would be alarmed.

I am sure what your doing is just fine as well. Remember...you have to use "Phillips" for the PPonk warranty for break-in...

Sure feels good to be back flying. Unfortuanatly, I wont beflying the next 3 days due to my EMT re-cert class starting this am... #-o :( :x

Actually gave my second REAL CPR to a 76 year old man named Larry at the races this weekend. I hope he turned out good... [-o<

In the midst of breaking her in today....back for a quick oil change. Getting 141 mph at 5500' at 2300 squared and 2500rpm. All cht's showing between 350 and 360. Oil temp is sitting at 184. Fuel flow is 17.1 egt's are all running around 1290.

Seems to be doing real well. Wings feel great...

Get it broke in the rest of the way! Then come down to the west circuit Saturday with us and see what it can do at sea level!

Re: UPDATE 9/14 -My Cessna 180 Project - She is Flying

Paper work is all complete and she is back in her own hanger tonight...and she barley fits. Maybe 10 inches or so on each side.

Image

Big day today. Put several hours on her and gave her an oil and first filter change. I am continued to be baffled by this new wing with the Sportsman and Wing X....For those of you that do know, I just cannot explain it. Its incredible to say the least. Here are a few photos from the day.

Time out for an oil change
Image
Image
Image

A couple photos of the filter...Very clean! There were a few fragments of gunk but Steve Knopp said don't be alarmed when you see all the crap come out of the first filter change...We did not see much...
Image
Image

A then, flying her back to her hanger in Truckee...I am not that big (6'2) but you can see in this photo why I turned my yokes upside down. They just dont feel correct the other way...
Image

It was a good day. Back at it in the AM.

I wish I could come fly with you guys this weekend Rob! This next week is my anniversary and I owe a lot to my wife for giving me so much time to do this without hassle (most of the time)...even more so when I showed her the final bill for all of this today. She has us going to Mexico on Saturday until next Thursday. Wish I could stay and fly but Cabo will be fun.

Already looking forward to the morning...Maybe headed to the lower elevations just to the east...

I like the part about the baffling, incredible, and unexplainable wing. Sounds like you like it! What a compliment to pay to your airplane, and it's always good to throw a little mysticism in there when talking about our magical aircraft.
