vacuum pump cover plate

I always thought that a vacuum pump was a vacuum pump, but looking in the Spruce catalog I see there's a lot of different models. I'm curious as to whether they all have the same footprint?
I'm thinking of pulling the vacuum system off my 180 & installing (probably) a Dynon D2 EFD unit.
I'll need a cover plate for the vacuum pump drive pad, and need to know if I have to have a specific p/n plate or if any one will do.

Re: vacuum pump cover plate

As far as I can tell all of the normal -470's (A,J,K,L,R,S) use the same plate. #633068

Thats the plate I used to cover where the vacuums pump was on our 180 with a o-470 K. Worked prefect, about a 5 minute job once the cowl is off.

#1 Plate and #5 Gasket on the parts manual.

Re: vacuum pump cover plate

Thanks! You don't happen to have that 470 IPC on a pdf or similar file, do you? I have the early & late C180 IPC's & the 470 OH manual stored in my computer, but not the 470 parts book. Can't recall if I have a hard copy (in my hangar) or not.

I pulled the vac pump on the 320 Lyc on my last airplane and installed a cover plate. I went back later & pulled the drive adapter also, and so bolted the cover plate directly to the accessory case. Looks like the 470 is configured differently, with different bolt patterns, so you pull the pump but not the drive adapter (#13 on the drawing you posted)?

Re: vacuum pump cover plate

Here is the link to the IPC I use http://www.kalwishky.com/files/O470%20-%20Illustrated%20Parts%20Catalog.pdf

The -470 is different in that respect, the same gear that drives the vacuum pump is the same gear that drives the Mag. All you do is pull the pump, no gears inside the engine. Assembly #12 in the drawing stays put, and I believe it has to for the mag to continue to work. Or at least thats how I did it.

Re: vacuum pump cover plate

Thanks for the link! I downloaded and saved it.
My IA tells me that the footprint is the same for all vacuum pumps.
The corresponding Lycoming part number is 60430.
FWIW ECI makes a cover plate and uses the Lycoming p/n to identify it.
