Value of Engine??
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
I'm cleaning out the hangar and I've got an old Continental core. Does anyone know the value of it? I'm looking to post it on barnstormers, but I don't know what to price it at. I do not have the log books for it. Thanks!

Let me know when you figure out what you want for it. I've got a friend looking for a core.

25 years ago I paid $1500.00 for a C-85 core, I certainly wouldn't let it go for scrap metal price.

Gravity Strikes Again.
If it is a -8 and the case and crank are good I'd say youve got yourself a pretty nice valuable there. Get some numbers off it and call the Dons Dream Machines guys.

What I always hear is that a core is worth around $4K. Of course, if you're trying to sell no one wants to pay more than a grand, and if you're trying to buy no one'll take less than 6.
What's the engine time?
A C90 is in many ways the most desirable of the small 4 banger Continentals. Find a Cub or Champ guy wanting to re-engine would be my suggestion.

Yea, unfortunately no log books. I might come across them cleaning out the hangar, but I'm not sure. My wife and I purchased a small airport last year and there were lots of parts left here with the hangar.

Interesting, according to the data plate, that's a 14 F engine.

I'm unfamiliar with a 14 F. Is that a particularly special engine?

The C90-14F question came up recently on the Cessna120/140 club forum. The -14F uses the same mount as a O200 where as the -12F uses the same mount as the C85. The discussion talked about how the engine mount for a -14F was shorter by a couple of inches than the engine mount for the -12F. In both cases the "F" means Flanged crankshaft for the prop mounting vrs to tapered crankshaft. Probably off a Cessna 140A.

Core values can be all over the board!
A core that has been run regularly over the last 10 years and has reached normal TBO with no prop strike and crankshaft was at STD last overhaul and has all accessories and has complete logs and and and will be worth way more than a core that was found in the corner of a hangar! Who knows the core could have been out of a wreck with a bent crank, cracked case etc , or have been an A&P school engine that has all kinds of unserviceable parts that the students are supposed to find bad part in. (although it doesn't look like one of those) etc etc.
Just an estimate is to ask $1500 ish and expect to get $1000-$1200 or just sell it on ebay and let the bidding begin.
