Re: What can I have in and around my hangar without getting

Around 5 or 6 years ago I was on a waiting list at CKN for a hanger, I was put in touch with probobly the same guy who was the bad seed that MTV was talking about who had 3 hangers and no flyable airplanes. He told me he had an open hanger I could use for a while. He charged me over $100 a month for a hanger that he rented for $50 a month, he kept telling me he would give me one of the bigger hangers that actually costed that but he had to move his stuff out of it. Well he didn't do anything and kept charging me over twice the rental amount and the airport didn't allow sub leasing like he was doing. After a couple months of this I got furious, moved my airplane back out to the tiedowns, and talked to the local guy who ran the FBO about what was going on. Shortly there after a hanger opened up I got back inside. It was a very frustrating process to get a hanger for my flying airplane when this one guy had 3 and used them for storage.

That must be where Marathon Oil Co decided that they had the right to send a team to inspect my hangar (on my private farm). I got word that the "team" was going to show up the next Monday and that I was not allowed to have anything besides an airplane in that hangar. Not even a case of oil. Not tool boxes, nothing.

I sent word back that I was a gun carring redneck and if they showed up at my place, they better have a search warrent.

Of course after ten years of flying for Marathon, now I don't fly for them anymore.

Marathon got some new Saftey Czar and he/.she went nuts on other things too.

Here there must be a certain percentage of aircraft or aircraft related items in the building. Thankfully for most of us it's run pretty loose.

I think Nosedragger can read the tea leaves perfectly..... Let's see how his situation turns out..... And the word Bigotry cuts both ways ya know......

": a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance"

Time will tell.......................

Sad state of GA when a trucking company stands with cash in hand and no one is willing to put their money down to run a FBO.

Please go on line and sign the petition to save Essex Skypark (W48). Visit our web site at essexskyparkassn.org. We have all kinds of support for our cause. Space Shuttle Commander, Tom Jones, took his first flight here. Feel free to browse the site. This is a jewel on the Chesapeake Bay. =D> One of the last 3 sea plane bases in Maryland. Once you see it you can see why the airport is wanted by others.

Thanks in advance! :D

The community is behind saving the airfield, if they found out that 70% of the hangers are tied up as cheap storage #-o we will have a tougher go at this. I was very upset to find out about this. I think all managers should open the doors a least once a year if not bi-annualy.

Sorry for the High Jack of the thread. But for us pilots it is very important to keep our airfield open and this airfield is suffering from the exact thing this thread is talking about!

Take care Guys

The ground lease for our condo hangars sez they must be used for airplane storage. Several private hangars on the airport are just used for storage, as that clause is not enforced. The port owned hangars are policed to a point, but as long as an airplane or something that looks like an airplane is in there they don't mind a moderate amount of other stuff too.
I can see why someone would rent a hangar for storage use, go check what it costs to rent an equivalent space (950-1000 sq ft) at the local mini storage-- quite a bit more, around here anyways.I don't like it if there's a waiting list for airplanes but if the hangar would otherwise be empty (we've got some empty rental units at my airport right now) at least using them as storage space brings in some revenue.

Before you raise too much hell about this entire issue just bear in mind that if you throw large rocks into a cess pool everyone around will smell like shit.

Absolutely is. It burned me when the city signed the sweetheart deal with this same guy who has a trucking company and an air freight operation. He least both FBO buildings on our airport. He runs his air freight operation out of one and his trucking company out of the other. He's been longtime friends with certain city council members. Sound familiar? At least the new city manager gets it and is at least trying to get the trucking operation removed. Saddest part of all is that no one is even able to start up an FBO right now. Not enough business. We've had several "gentlemen of questionable means and heritage" come forward and say they want to start one up. But when it comes time to plunk the money down they disappear. I understand the city's dilemma, lease to a trucking company or let the building stand empty and collect no money at all. I don't like it but I understand it.

Looks like the "old boy network" has accidently left the board meeting off the notice to public agenda......

It's not like they don't want anyone to show up or something..... :^o :^o [-X

Re: What can I have in and around my hangar without getting

That's normal, they didn't have an agenda until today. I gave them something to start with. We'll see what happens, it's going to be pretty hard to argue with the airplane/ hangar ratio but people get good at rationalizing things. I have a building that's suddenly too big for me, I'm hoping we can clean this place out enough to encourage an FBO to move in and buy my hangar.

Re: What can I have in and around my hangar without getting

So after writing a letter pointing out the FAA requirements for our airport, I was informed that our funding comes from the State. I'm not sure that makes a big fundamental difference in what I intend to discuss but I'm having a hard time finding what the expectations are for the State of Idaho. Do they follow the FAA regs or are they softer? One of the other hangar owners told me the State doesn't care what goes on out there, I find that hard to believe but it could be true.

Re: What can I have in and around my hangar without getting

The March issue of Kitplanes was discussing access rules regarding airports that receive Federal funding. It may be that the State currently funds the airport but if they received funding in the past they are still bound by the rules. According to Kitplanes you should be able to find out by looking in FAA Order 5190.2R, List of Public Airports Affected by Agreements with the Federal Government. This list was last published in 1990 but there'd be a good chance if your airport has been around longer than that, it would be listed if it received funding.
