When to get physical

My 3rd class med expires this month. Just had MRI and will be getting shoulder surgery second week of October. If I get physical now do I need to tell them about upcoming surgery and will that fail me. Or should I get physical after recovery?

Re: When to get physical

Get your physical this month before it expires, ground yourself after the surgery until you can manipulate the controls with no problems and you are released by your surgeon for unlimited activities, and then report at your next medical.

I agree with mnewbe1. Don't give them any reason to make you go for a waiver. After my last crash, and the only one I was ever hurt in, I submitted thousands of current medical records (already paid for by my insurance.) Notorious Dr. Wilson, KC FSDO, wanted it all redone (at my expense.) I became the pile out behind the hanger, "all used up."

Yep, as above. Get medical then self report once you get the letter from the doc.

Did that w/ knee replacement and it was really pretty straight forward.

Magic words from Dr. is " clear to resume all normal activities" or " clear to resume all activities" . If the Dr. wants to get fancy with range of motion, etc. fine, but my feeling is the less in the letter the less there is to nit pick.

I am under the Aerospace Medicine group in Renton, WA and they are really helpful.

Also did the shoulder several years ago and just reported under surgeries w/ a letter from Dr.

If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself. Probably not but it is a great concept. 8)

Never until the forth date and certainly not with an impending medical. It's really hard to explain away the bite marks in the neck and shoulders and four finger claw marks down the back, especially to Dr. Petra...
