Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

This morning was one of those days when you just knew your favorite spot was perfect, and it was yelling, get down here NOW! I have a buddy who is doing some carpenter work for me and he has been wanting to go for a plane ride. I said "Brock it is a 10 lets go" and off we went.

The east wind was a blowing, which makes it very warm on da beach. at 0930 it was 65* and no wind on the ground. On the way over we were making 165 MPH GS on the decent with the wind flowing down the coastal range at our backs we saw 188 MPH GS HOT DAM!!!

Landing on the Chukowan River in Southwest AK in the 206. Neat spot, pretty tight, horrible after its been raining.

Excellent video, even more excellent music. I normally don't like music with these things because I like to hear what's going on but not this time.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Sorry, no photos, but most likely a video in the future.

We had thirty young Amish waiting for us up on a 800 foot one-way hill top hay field.

We showed up with four airplanes, a super cub, a rans s7, a champ, and my scout.

I think we each made 5-6 trips hauling everyone who wanted a ride. We all had a blast. Every hill top in the area had the Amish families sitting down watching and waving as we came and went with their neighbors. It was like the entire community shut down to watch the "airshow."

They ask us to "swoop" their girl friends and boyfriends farms. A neat area where airplanes are welcomed, and buzz jobs are expected, just don't hit their windmills!

Hello Backcountry Pilots,
Took a flight across the Palouse Hills this morning, and landed on a few farmers fields that I know. Also landed on a couple ridge lines, and found a new elk spot too at the headwaters of "No tell em creek". :D

Flew with my daughter to Columbia, CA and camped for the Labor Day weekend. Had a great time!

Great pics Oregon180! We usually go into Columbia this weekend as well to visit my inlaw's cabin on Sonora Pass. No plane means no trip this year. We are heading up to the San Juan Islands on Thursday, if the weather holds out for us.

Looks like a great time. I took my 3-1/2 year old daughter flying yesterday as well, for 0.7 hours in the local area. Looking forward to some more ambitious trips such as yours. Happy to report that she really enjoyed herself thorughout :D

We've been reading a kids' book about Charles Lindbergh, and it was surprising how much of that she has latched onto. She wanted to bring sunscreen for yesterday's flight. Several hours later I realized that at one point in the story, Charles Lindbergh has sun beating in the cockpit and starts sweating in his flight suit. She was expecting it to be the same as the book

Makes me think that "father-daughter" would be a cool theme for a fly-in. Mother-daughter too, for that matter.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hey Oregon180, I flew by Columbia yesterday and saw some planes on the grass strip near the camp grounds said to myself "I should drop in and see who's camping". Bummed I didn't!

Re: Where did you fly today?

No where real interesting - had to head down to my dads ranch in the foothills of the central valley, CA to hand deliver his birthday gifts form my daughters. As typical, I buzz the neighborhood, sneaking up behind my dads place through a little valley, then land on the strip he has for me.

He got a couple cool shots, and here's a video of it from the cockpit.

Emmet,

I think that is hands-down the best cockpit POV I have ever seen.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nate and I worked and played a little today.

Worked cleaning up the hangar and moving stuff around. Then went and flew a bit to warm up Nate's oil for a change.

Went to a friends pasture strip about 10 miles away and had fun chatting with him about his Stearman project. It was a flying airplane, but now it's a stripped down fuselage in the beginning stages of restoration. Hopefully he'll have it up and running by next spring and I can talk him into giving me a ride.

Fun pasture

After some chit chat we headed back home to change the oil and finish cleaning up.

Winds look a bit high for tomorrows flight over the Rockies, we'll see how it goes in the morning.

SPOT will be on and tracking. ;)
