Looks like awesome country, Dale. Nice pics, esp the landing. Another 120/140?

Yes a 120 and a 140, seems to be a lot of the little Cessnas in this part of the country.

Flew to Talkeetna for the weekend. Yesterday I unexpectedly connected with a pilot friend of mine and her new husband who happened to be in town for the weekend from Anchorage. Today took her up in my plane (back seat is out so only two seats right now) and we flew up the Susitna River, through Chulitna Pass and up the Eldridge glacier before returning. Tonight I flew home back to McKinley Park with the sun setting behind me, beautiful as always...

Took this one at about 8:15 tonight coming out of Chulitna Pass to join the highway for the rest of the way north. That's Denali in the background.

On sunday the I buzzed up to Brehnam texas just northwest of Houston. They have a 1950's style diner right on the ramp complete with a juke-box and waitresses in poodle-skirts. There were about 30 planes outside on the ramp when I got there, I knew I was in the right place. The food was awesome and the dessert even better. I think that was the best pecan pie I have ever had, with fresh blue-bell icecream on the side. The Bluebell factory is there in town and I plan on taking the tour next time I go up there. If your ever in that area definately try out the Southern Flyer Diner at the Brehnam airport. :D :D

It's been nearly a couple of weeks now, but here's a link to the latest MauleBros trip through the southwest. We actually didn't know where we were going until we got to Big Bear where we decided we could use the wx window to get to Page and back before the rain started in Calif. It started raining two hours after we closed the hangar doors.

And then... two days after we got back, I did a dawn patrol over Yosemite:

Anybody out there realize how few places are left in the world where you can do this sort of thing on a whim?

I'm lost
but I'm not afraid

After waiting for some time I caught a break in the weather and flew the Super Cub up to Wipaire in Minnesota. This trip is about 380 nautical miles and ground speeds varied from 70 kt to 99kt depending on the winds. Grabbed a rental car and came back in rain most of the way. Tis the season in the midwest.

Just got back from a fun flight and took a friend who is also a pilot along. Went to Garden Valley just because it is there then headed to Warm Springs. Weather crapped out so we turned south looking for better weather and found it. We landed at Weatherby, had a slight tail wind on landing so I had to slip it in, no flaps on the Luscombe. From there went to Atlanta, I had never been there before so wondered why the runway numbers didn't match me heading. I wasn't on approach or anything I just came up the Valley and saw I strip and thought hmm... thats not right, then I remembered that Greene Valley Ranch is right there, that is about the time I spotted the Atlanta strip. There is a web spot across the runway right at the windsock, wasn't a issue though, just had to taxi thought it to get to the end of the strip for departure. It was a fun couple hours of flying. The guy that went with me took like 80 pictures so when I get them I will post the good ones.

Took a short flight from Jackson Hole down to AlpineWY yesterday. Flew direct to it over the Snake River range, up to 12,000 or so to clear terrain. Good weather and a smooth flight. Snow pack is real light, in fact it is downright scary. You firefighters better start eatin your wheaties cause its gonna be a LONG season... Bill Simpson, the helmet/safety product guy sold out and a guy , Bill Weimann, [sp] has bought the strip. He has started to buff it out to make it a REAL airpark. He is also a Husky dealer and has restored the old hangar into a beautiful showroom. This place has the koolest glu lam beams holding up the roof. They have sanded them down and clear coated them and the ceiling too. It is without a doubt the nicest hangar I have even seen. He has several Huskies in there on display in various configurations. I hear he is a muscle car freak so when he sees and hears my beast I bet we will have a great bench racing episode. Ahh, the sound of a smallblock making HP!!!! Snake river is running way too clear considering the early runoff, another indication of poor snowpack.

If you're not scarin' yourself, you're not scarin' the crowd!

Did Hillsboro, Astoria, Hoquiam this morning, HIO-KAST-KHQM.

My buddy flew up and I flew it back. Had a great breakfast at Lana's, the lady there is quite a comedian..

We did the simulated SCAPO4 departure at HIO, and the VOR 6 into HQM. I flew GPS direct to HIO, then picked up my Instructor and did my first Instrument lesson, which turned out to be administative stuff and ground with no flying, .

Gonna catch the EAA pancake breakfast at Twin Oaks tomorrow, then go try to locate a private field near Mt. St. Helens in the afternoon.

I have logged almost 15 flight hours in the last 2 weeks...

Life has been really good....

After spending Easter weekend watching the snow melt in Talkeetna I flew home this afternoon. Took a detour up Cantwell Creek into the cirque below the Cantwell glacier, which hangs off a cliff. You can see it poking below the cloud. Flew through a couple narrow passes from there to home. Low hanging clouds and some brief rain showers but I'll take that over cold temps and snow at this point! =D>

Nasty burbling crosswind coming across the trees at PAIN (aptly named let me tell you!) but managed to get 'er on the ground without swapping ends.
